A guy I went to school with(like 6-12 grade) came out shortly after we graduated as being gay. NBD. He's done fabulous and was recently voted to be President of the Board of Directors for the local theater group. He's really turned the theater around, it has great shows coming to it now and its sold out almost every weekend. Anyway, he was just arrested for sexual misconduct with a teenage boy. I'm floored. From what I gather(from friends) it was consentual but the boy was underage and his parents are pressing charges. I'm not sure how I feel about this but I suppose its really none of my business and I don't know the true story. Coming from a super small area being gay is still.....taboo, I guess would be the right word. So this has shaken up my hometown. So crazy.

I'm the same way. He's around 26 or 27 and kid was 17. Still not appropriate but makes things a little gray for me I think. Now there's a whole big theory of this whole thing was a set up because people were upset he was voted as President.

Crazy news! I'm from a small town as well, so I know what you mean by your whole town being shaken up! In the past 2 years, 3 people I went to high school with died.
The sad thing: You don't know the full story. And probably never will. This very similar thing happened with my ex-boyfriend and this 14 year old girl. She was a....slut....and he was a horny teenager. Her mom is vengeful. So he went to juvi (he was 16) for something they both did and that's what is on his record. (Not related: He totally deserved it because he was definitely a nympho) lol
I get what you're saying, it's just tough when there are still very impressionable and naive 17 year olds out there. Hopefully this was entirely the result of the age difference and not the result of the parents being upset about their child being gay.

OOH! I have a little story to tell. When I was about 13-14 years old, I dated a guy for about a year off and on. Nothing serious, but you know how puppy love is. We kept in touch up until I was about 24 or so. Mostly we would see each other out at bars and what not. Well, last year, I was reading an article from the newspaper of the town I used to live in, and his face was smeared across the front. Turns out, the guy is spending life in prison for having mass amounts of kiddy porn on his computer!!!!!!!! He was caught once, put on probation after a stint in jail, and then while on probation, his parole officer confiscated his computer that he wasnt supposed to have, and found MORE porn on there.
I was so freaked out about all of this... I never in a million years would have guessed he'd be that type of person.

IMHO, 17 is NBD. There are 17yo who are more mature than some 30yo. I don't think it's fair for the parents to press charges after being an age which is legal to consent. When I was 18, I dated a 35 yo. If was really NBD and we worked really well as a couple. We even lived together for a while. I hate that things like this turn into a huge deal because of sexual orientation.
