WDYT about "James"?

Too old-manish?  We found out we are having two boys.  We agreed on Langston Matthew for Baby B.  We talked about James Marshall for Baby A.  DH likes it, but I dont know...something out it is a bit old man to me.  WDYT?

I also like Elijah Marshall (Marshall is a family name I want to keep, but not as a first name).  Suggestions on names that go with Marshall are also welcome.

Re: WDYT about "James"?

  • I love it to! My DH has had that name picked out for a middle name since he was in junior high. And Jimmy is an awesome shortening of the name =D

  • I love James.  Dh's family has a tradition that every first born male gets James as a middle name so if I have a boy it will definitely have James as a middle name.

  • I like James. It sounds good for a Man name, when he gets bigger, and has the potential for a cute little boy name. It would be on our list, but our last name is TOO short for a short first name. :/

James gets my vote over Elijah - just my opinion though.

  • I love James. My DH is James, but is called Jim. If we have a boy, his middle name will be James.

  • James is a perfectly good name. I like it.

What about Lincoln Marshall? Or is that too matchy? Alexander Marshall? Sterling Marshall?

  • I really like the name James!

Lol. That's where I first heard it and now I'm in love with it. It means little star which is adorable.

  • I love the name James. There are a few nicknames you could use also such as Jim, Jimmy, Jamie, Jay, etc. My youngest brother's name is Matthew James and I've just always loved the way James sounds. I don't think it's old-mannish at all.

  • I live it! That's my dads name, shortened to Jimmie, and my sons middle name; Steven James.
  • I love the name James and would gladly name my own son that, but I dated one in high school who was the douchiest douche to ever douche. Name yours that, and raise him to redeem the name ;)
  • imageadri823:
I love James. Lots of good nicknames, too, for a young kid.

Yeah, I totally see myself calling out "Jaime, take the trash out"  or something like that...lol.

Thanks Ladies.  I feel better about this now.

  • It's a little vanilla to me...I've never loved it as a first name, more preffered it for a middle name. Love Langston- it's the name of the author of my favorite poem ever.

  • I like Elijah. If you give baby b Langston you can't give baby A a normal name lol just saying!!! Of course James is a nice name but in my opinion a bit older sounding. Of course he will grow up lol I know a 5th grader named Frank so.....

  • I LOVE the name. However, FIL, BIL, cousin-IL, plus two of DH's uncles, and my late uncle are/were all James (Jim/Jimmy). Way too many on both sides of our family. Plus I hate my FIL so no way would I name a kid after him.

Our son is Jameson (and I think FIL thinks he is named after him - he is NOT). Nickname is Jamie. If we didn't have all those James' in our families and had used it, I would not have shortened it, or would have used Jamie if we had. I really dislike the nickname Jim/Jimmy.

That's where the name comes from...Langston Hughes and then James = James Baldwin...because me and DH are nerds like that.

Edit: but obviously not that smart.  I meant "DH and I"...lol

  • I have a friend and she named her baby boy Jamerson. I had never heard it before, but love it.  I love James too, but I would go with a name with more than one syllable since Baby B is a longer name.
  • I love James and it's high up on our list despite being the name of my cousin and former uncle.  Youtube "Sweet Baby James" by James Taylor and you'll pick it for sure.
