Baby Names

Too Many Ms?

Hello! We're beginning to think about #3 - not pregnant yet but just daydreaming about names.

Our last name starts with M. DS1's initials are RTM, and DS2's are MMM. And we're sort of thinking that if #3 is a girl, we want to name her Magnolia Marie, which would make her an MMM too. Is that too many Ms in our family? Just looking for thoughts so I can continue daydreaming ;)

Re: Too Many Ms?

  • I wouldn't do it, but then I wouldn't have done the first MMM. If it doesn't bother you, then I owuldn't worry about it. Magnolia is a nice name.

  • I mean, yeah-- it's a lot of Ms but Magnolia is such a pretty name. Go for it!

  • Personally, I'm not a big fan of using the same letter. But, if you like it go for it!
  • I agree, if you like the name go for it! Just so happens most of the names I like are M too!

  • I don't think it's bad at all--they're just initials. If you love the names, don't let the initials scare you off.

  • Love Magnolia! Go for it! the only thing i could see as a problem would be if you like personalizing your kids things with initials. But that wouldn't stop me!

  • If I were Richard I would spend my life wondering if I was adopted since all my siblings have the same initials and I didn't.

Nah - it's fine! Don't overthink initials or letters. Do you like the name? Does it flow well? Those are what matter.

I love Magnolia, by the way :-)

    Agreed!

Sorry OP, but I have to agree. All of my husband's siblings' (except two, and one of them died when she was 4 months old, so they didn't grow up with her) names start with J, and the other SIL whose name doesn't start with J always complains that she's the odd one out.

But if you have another child after Magnolia, and didn't use M that would be different.

  • I wouldn't stress it. I'm not a fan of matching letter sibsets, but DS1 is R so you didn't do all three with Ms. I really LOVE Magnolia and would love to see someone use it instead of just talking about using it and then chickening out :)

H said no right away to Magnolia.

    Have fun daydreaming!
