I really like the name Leighton for a girl. I know its unisex I've only known females with the name. I'm wondering if it will get mispronounced though, like Lee.ton instead of Lay.ton. I don't like the spelling Layton plus it seems like that is more male than unisex. Thoughts? If you haven't heard the name before, how would you pronounce it based on the spelling Leighton?
I never know when "leigh" is supposed to be pronounced "Lay" or "Lee"; I'm always guessing. I personally pronounced the name correctly based on your spelling, but I do think your fears are legitimate.
I don't like this name for a girl, regardless, but then I really don't care for "unisex" names for anyone. Changing a spelling doesn't change the sound of the name, so it's still just as masculine to me with a "leigh" as a "lay."
Re: Pronunciation ?
I first read it as Layton. Some people may mispronounce it, but if you like go for it.

I would pronounce it Lay-ton, but prefer the spelling Leighton.
This. And, I do not like it.
