I did 3 cycles of Clomid and I felt like I needed to be locked in a loony bin. I pretty much wanted to cry every second of the day. I'm doing my 4th cycle of Letrozole and the side effects are much less however I still find that I snap at DD and DH occasionally for stupid stuff that shouldn't upset me.
I love it!! I did Clomid with zero success no follies at all... Then the doctor wanted to do injectibles said it was the only way... did the minimum dose on one medicine (menopur maybe?) and had 6 mature follies but like 20 or so total... So he said okay nope and went to letrozole (the generic)... It's CHEAP - only $4.75 for 10 pills and that's with NO insurance coverage!!! And I consistently get 2 follies and have gotten pregnant from it but ended in mc... so I'm starting it again... best of luck!!
TTC #2 since 2009 Have PCOS two close calls with letrozole and hcg trigger. Hoping 3rd time does the trick...
I got pregnant with DD on my first cycle of femara. I had no side effects. This time around, I have not been able to stay pregnant on femara. I have moved to injectibles.

Lauren - have they said why you are not able to stay pregnant? Is it low progesterone or have they even checked? I'm just curious because I had my first bfp for baby #2 and it ended in mc on letrozole... my doctor wants to keep doing same protocol because it worked...

My DS was a femara baby. I did about 5 cycles of it and then was pregnant with him. We tried femara again to get pregnant. I was pregnant and it ended in miscarriage. Two months later I was pregnant again and am now currently 12 weeks. This time I am on metformin as well since I have PCOS. I think the combination of the two has helped me this time.
Femara works for a lot of people. It typically creates less follicles, but it can result in multiples (this pregnancy started out as twins), but less of a chance than injectibles and many people overrespond to injectibles.
I'm on my first cycle of Femara. While side effects are considered rare, I was unfortunate enough to have a really hard time with them. One of the effects was severe anxiety -- so severe that I ended up in the ER with a panic attack. I don't know if it was successful yet -- will be able to test in 6 days -- but DH and I have weighed out the pros and cons and have decided not to do it again if this cycle didn't work out.
My doc hasn't put me on Clomid yet. That will probably be the next step. Everyone reacts differently and I guess you just have to try it out and see what works best for you.

They aren't sure. Bad Luck is really what I am getting from the RE. They are also saying m/c are common. My mom had 4 and my MIL had 3. It can run in the family per my RE. I also have an unexplained diagnosis so it makes it tough. My egg quality is perfect so I really have no idea. My progesterone for my 1st m/c was low and it was high during my second m/c....so it's all a mystery.
I have moved on to injectibles to have a better chance and more follies. On femara I only have 1 follicle. The only time I had 2 was when I got pregnant with DD. Last month on the injectibles I had at least 10 mature follicles so my cycle was cancelled.

Yes my RE told me they are common as well, but that definitely doesn't help... I didn't know it could be a family thing, though I suspected... I have been told there was no link every time I ask my RE or OBGYN about issues my mom had so I just stopped asking... Hopefully 2013 can be the trick for all of us!!

I tried clomid several times and never ovulated on it. My RE rec'd Femara this time. I also did an Ovidrel shot and IUI with it. I'm now 12 weeks pregnant.
I had awful side effects with Clomid and didn't with Femara. GL!
