Everyone on the planet keeps telling me to drink warm prune juice. Instead I quit taking Zofran (which causes constipation) and increased my water intake. Worked like a charm! But warm prune juice is supposed to work really well too.
Pineapple and mango worked for me. And some Colace to help it pass without tearing me a new one. Decaf coffee normally works like a charm for me, but the Zofran was undoing all the coffee's hard work! Pumpkin (real, not just the flavour) works really well, too.
Nowadays, I have the opposite problem. I take an Immodium tablet once every other day...
When I poop it is a good day. I now understand why they told me to buy the extra large bottle of colace.
Are you using the Colace to make it easier when you poop or to make you poop? Because Colace doesn't make you poop-- for that, you need other stuff. (I didn't learn this until nursing school-- I thought previously that it was all stuff to actually make you poop.)

The colace makes the poop softer so it is easier to get out, kind of like a lube for poop (I actually did learn that in nursing school but it never mattered before). Most laxitives are not a good idea during pregnancy. Now I am on iron so it is not going to get any better.
I was pretty backed up at first- it was miserable. I started a regimine of 3 Colace a day and it helped. Until one day it didn't. I hadn't gone for about 4 days or so and I knew I needed to head things off at the pass (I had read/heard too many stories about ladies going into the ER for impacted stool -- horrified me! Not this girl!!) So I started a course of Miralax- after 4 more days, I had the best poop of my life. Got everything back on track. I have kept taking Colace (3 a day) and everything has stayed the course. I'm not going to say that it's the best or like it was pre-preggo, but I go every day and that's what matters. Makes a big difference in how comfortable you feel overall.
It's amazing what you can tell about the body from poop.
Right now-- and TMI WARNING!!-- mine is freaking green like grass. Clearly, lots of bile in my system. It's very festive, given the holiday season. Maybe I should eat some red berries or pomegranate seeds to make it more like a Christmas holly sprig?

I can't handle prunes, but dried apricots work pretty well for me.
