My friends are planning a trip to Vegas when I will be 34/35 weeks pregnant. DH and I are planning on going. We will drive (18 hours total) over 2 days each way and I will be able to make stops whenever we want. Some people think I'm crazy for planning on doing this, but it doesn't seem that big of a deal to me. This is my second pregnancy and I had no complications with DS and have so far had no complications. I am planning on working all the way to my due date and to me driving and taking a vacation doesn't seem any more taxing than working and taking care of a 2-yr-old. What do you guys think, is this doable or am I crazy?
It could be a long ride and you may be uncomfortable, but it's doable.
I will say that I had no complications with either pregnancy and basically worked up to my due date (or past) with both, but I was much less comfortable in my second pregnancy, just in terms of aches and pains. But I guess there's not much difference between sitting at a desk and sitting in the car!
I think you're crazy, but I wouldn't want to do an 18hr drive not pregnant. I've never been to Vegas, but it doesn't seem like it would be fun to be there pregnant. Personally (and I say this as a FT working mom of 2u2), I would go for a much more relaxing vaca alone with hubby.

I have been to Vegas and nothing about this trip - driving 18 hours and being 34 weeks PG - appeals to me at all.
I wouldn't go PG, much less hugely PG.

I agree with this. If I had a babysitter for baby #1 and was taking a vacation right before having baby #2, I would much prefer a relaxing vacation with hubby.
We drove from Maryland to Florida when I was 7 months pregnant with #2 and sitting in the car was MISERABLE.
I think it's doable if Vegas is your thing. Personally, I would be miserable, lol. Sitting in a car for 18 hours over two days, even with stops, at 34/35 weeks pregnant sounds super uncomfortable even during the best of pregnancies.
I'm not really sure what would be fun to do in Vegas while you're pregnant either. You can't drink, casinos are loud and smoky, you generally walk quite a bit if you're staying on the Strip. None of that sounds appealing to me.
Again, though, if Vegas is your thing and you'd enjoy it then go for it. I'm with some of the other pp though, I'd rather go somewhere more relaxing alone with my hubby right before the birth of a second child.
Also even with uncomplicated pregnancies my Doc wants me within 45 minutes of a hospital with a NICU after 32 weeks just in case, because every pregnancy is different. Not sure where you're coming form, but there are some pretty desolate areas going into vegas no matter where you're starting from
This too. A friend was getting married 10 hours away when I was 34 weeks PG. My doc said I could go if I really felt I needed to, but to know where all the hospitals were between Baltimore and Maine were - "just in case".
I opted not to go.
18 hours and through the dessert? Yeah - it will be desolate at times. I know PG #1 was fine, but sometimes women have 2 VERY different pregnancies.

I think you're crazy...but more for wanting to go to Vegas at 34/35 weeks. Nothing about vegas that pregnant would appeal to me. The smells, the walking...the smoke everywhere. The people getting drunk all around me, when all I want to do is put on some yoga pants and go to bed, no thanks.

I agree with this as well.
Hm I definitely don't agree w/the above. But maybe because I had midwives who wouldn't say something like that. I get that every pregnancy is different but I really didn't know OBs said things like this.
From someone who is 31 weeks pg with my second there is no way I would be getting in a car and traveling 18 hours right now. Or anytime soon.
With DS, I felt amazing until my last week or two. Not with this one. I hit a wall much earlier with this one. There is no way I would be able to sit for two days straight. And the BH contractions with this one are so much more intense with this pg then they were with DS sometimes I feel like I am going to look between my legs and see DS2's hand waving at me!
My point is, every pg is different. I know I could not do it right now.
Thanks for the responses. It is interesting to gets different peoples takes on the idea. My doctor said no traveling after 34 weeks and since I'll be bordering 34 and 35 weeks that it's pretty much up to me. Since DH and I are driving we are going to make sure everything can be canceled up to the last minute to see how I feel.
I think you're crazy. I wouldn't want to do the 18 hour drive both ways. I woulda had to stop at the bathroom every hour and would have taken forever to get anywhere. Vegas while that pregnant would be horrible to me (everyone drinking, smoking, the heat, the lines, etc).
I had a no issues pregnancy and wasn't dialated at all and my water broke at 37 weeks so I'm glad my OB told me to not travel farther than an hour away after 32 weeks. One of my gf's also had a no issues pregnancy and her water broke at 35 weeks. Babies do come early sometimes, so if you're ok possibly having your baby at a hosptial in the middle of nowhere then go for it.
It wouldn't be something I would do. I think you will be too far along to be driving that far. I couldn't imagine the amount of bathroom and stretch stops. And walking around Vegas is not something I would enjoy that pregnant.
I went to Vegas at 18 weeks pregnant and it kind of sucked. I hate being there if I can't drink! I wasn't showing or anything, but I felt kind of crappy and it wasn't fun.
However, if you feel good it won't be that bad. My question is, why don't you just fly there? I don't get it.
