Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone go to their OB simply for pain (not an infertility ordeal)?

I have an appointment next week to discuss some pain I've been having. TTC 8 months with long cycles. I've had cramps and occasional sharp pains throughout my cycle, which have recently gotten worse and more frequent. In the past week, my body has had several lh surges (ranging from half day to-2 days at a time) and none resulted in ovulation (I'm temping). However, the bigger issue is that I was hurled over in pain at least several times a day with these positive opk results. I mean, that can't be healthy. Huh? I made an appt for a consult next week purely about the pain, since it hasn't been a year to talk about infertility yet.

My question-any idea of what I should expect from the appt?

Our Novel of TTC:

*Male Factor (low count and low motility), High Prolactin, and Polycystic Ovaries (March 2013)
*Recurrent Miscarriage testing also revealed high anti-phospholipids & single MTHFR mutation. (Feb 2014)

*IVF (07/2013): BFP-Natural Miscarriage @ 5 weeks* <3 Madison Riley <3
*FET #1 (10/2013): BFN
*FET #2 (12/2013)- BFP-Missed Miscarriage at 8 weeks <3 Kyle Andrew <3
*Chromosomes and Karotyping tests were both normal. We lost a healthy baby boy :(
*FET #3 (04/2014) was cancelled after finding Chronic Endometritis
*Miraculous BFP July 2014!! (I was taking baby aspirin and Cabergoline to stay regulated while "taking a break from TTC" and waiting to consult with a reproductive immunologist!!!)

Our healthy baby girl was born 03/10/15 thanks to daily Lovenox injections and baby aspirin. There are no words for how grateful I am for our rainbow baby. <3

  • If you're having severe or prolonged pelvic pain that you feel you need to see a doctor for then yes, you should see your OB-GYN. Same as you should if you had pain in that area and weren't TTC. I'd expect to have an internal exam and possibly an ultrasound and I'd bring the information about where the pain falls in realtion to your cycle (beginning, middle, end), what things you have tried to alleviate the pain and how well those things worked.
Good luck, I hope your pain gets better.

My suggestion is to run screaming from your OB and look for a pelvic pain specialist in your area. We can discuss it more in detail over PM if you'd like but I am the perfect example of how OBs can fvvck you up.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a 'pelvic pain specialist'! Thanks for the info. i guess we will see how this goes

It is usually an RE that has done extensive work/research with endo, fibroids, cysts, CPP, etc. I don't think it is a horrible idea to start with an OB but don't allow them to discount what is going on with you or to tell you your pain can't be that bad. It is very important to be your own advocate.

cant make things bold but def what Kiki said about being your own advocate. Listen to their opinion and plan, ask questions, do your own research and ask about a referral as needed.

  • Thanks girls! The OB I'm going to actually specializes as an RE as well (you can go to her for primary care too those), so hopefully she's helpful and can get this pain under control!

  • Haven't posted in a while so sorry for nosing in....

I went to my OB/Gyn for pain and she ended up brushing me off and giving me birth control pills.

I didn't use the pills and went straight to a naturopathic doctor who spent 3 hours with me discussing my health.  I am not completely out of the woods yet, but in just the month I have taken what she prescribed I have felt significantly better.  She said it could take three months for the supplements to work fully, but I have hope that they will. My last period was almost painless as compared with the period before which put me in the ER.  I know you have different issues and certainly there are several avenues you can take, but don't discount a good naturopath who is women's health minded.

Just my two cents.  Take it or leave it if you wish!

  • I go to my OB for pain, but mine is caused by endometriosis. She specializes in surgery, which is why I chose. She really helped me get the pain under control.

You should expect a pelvic exam and a lot of questions at the first appointment. They might send you to get some tests, it just depends on what your doctor thinks is going on and causing the pain.
