I'm Googling and I can't find anything that says your dependent(s) must have lived with you more than half the year to qualify. I thought I read this somewhere. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks!
Death or birth of child. A child who was born or died during the year is treated as having lived with you all year if your home was the child's home the entire time he or she was alive during the year. The same is true if the child lived with you all year except for any required hospital stay following birth.
Not sure if this is different if you are divorced, share custody, or whatever though.
If you child is under a year old, you can claim them for the calendar year they were born in. The living requirement is more for who has the right to claim the child if you are not 'married filing jointly'.
Re: Child tax credit for tax year 2012
From the IRS website?
