How much of a size difference do these vary. I was just given a bunch of 24 mos. clothing and some 2t's for little one. Are they comparable in size or is 2T slightly larger? I know each brand of clothing can vary so I am thinking overall how does this sizing work?
Not much. I asked at a Carter's store once and the salesperson told me the size was the same, but that the 24m still had an elasticized waist, whereas the 2T had a regular waist with the pull-string adjuster. This was on a pair of shorts. The 24m and 2T pajamas are apparently identical in size.
I've heard that in some brands, 2T is slightly narrower and longer in the legs and arms.
I have heard 24 months has a little more room in the butt for a diaper and therefore the elastic waist band. And shirts can be a little more slender. I remember it by thinking infants have more baby fat and toddlers start to thin out...??
I compared a couple shirts I have that I had gotten as hand me downs for DS. The 2ts look a little bigger. Not by too much, but they look a tad longer and wider.
This. DS is in 2T but no way is he able to wear 24 months. DD is in 24 months but 2T is way too big. They are completely different, IMO.
2T is definitely bigger, but how much bigger depends on the brand and honestly, the build of your child. DD1 wears 24 months in some brands/styles, 2T in most brands, but 3T in a few others. The biggest differences I notice between 24m/2T are 2T is longer and is cut a little more slim in the diaper area.

Re: explain the difference between 24 mos/2t
most 24 months means until 24 months (shorter and wider) where 2T means from 2-3 tears old (longer and thinner)
my DD was 50% and just moved into 3T, she wore 2T from 2-almost 3 years old.
DS skipped 2T and went right to 3T. 2T was tight and right at his ankle, 3T looked more comfortable and had room to grow.

I skipped 24m altogether, TBH.
I always wondered this too.
