stroller use?

At what age did you start using your stroller for walks? We have a travel system, so he' be in his car seat and I'd stick to flat, smooth(ish) surfaces, but just curious wat others have done.

Thanks!

Re: stroller use?

  • we started taking walks a soon as i feel up to it and baby did not mind. She sat in her car seat and would watch the trees till she feel asleep

  • I guess I meant how much bumping their neck can handle. Our car seat came with a newborn insert, but he still seemed to bump around a bit, even on a paved sidewalk.

Unless you're off roading, nothing you can do on a walk is going to hurt the neck :)

  • we just used our city mini for the  first time last week. lo is 11 weeks old. we put a head support in and layed it as flat as it can go. he loved it! he gets so sweaty in his carseat if its the slightest bit warm at all, so this was a nice alternative to our snap and go.

he loved it! cooed and smiled untill he fell asleep. i dont feel like his head was in danger, but he also has a super strong little neck.

  • I always use the travel system. If its bumpy I go slow.

She also has a microlite umbrella style Stroller with a 5 point harness and newborn head support, its slightly more bumpy but she still enjoys it
  • I didn't start until he turned two months. I was paranoid about having him outside a lot without his shots.

  • Our first stroller walk took place when DD was about a week and a half old. Unfortunately now we live in an area with no real sidewalk, and it's a good 20+ minute drive to town, so we don't get to use it as often anymore :(

  • we were walking within a week.  we have the bob with the infant adapter so sh could stay in her car seat.  she preferred the bumps of the brick roads over the smooth sidewalks.

  • We started the first week. The sidewalks in our small town are terribly bumpy as well, so I walk on the street instead (there's hardly any traffic). It's also easier to take the dogs along on the walk that way so there's not as many smells for them to stop and pee on :)

If it is safe enough to protect them in the car, it should be good enough for a walk.  We started walking every day one week PP.  As long as the head doesn't flop back it is fine..a little bit of side to side motion is fine.
