GD moms - induced?

When and why?

I go on Thursday to appt and looking for some background info. My last induction was terrible and I am curious how many other moms were induced because of GD.

Re: GD moms - induced?

  • I had GD with my first two. With 1, baby was measuring 9lb at 39w. My OB strongly preferred that I not go over 40w risks to GD babies rise after the edd. He wanted to induce or c/s in week 39. Because I wasn't dilating or even effaced at all, and DS was still way up high, I chose to schedule a c/s at 39w4d. Totally happy with my choice.

  • I'm a FTM with GD and my OB mentioned possible induction or c/s by or on my EDD. She says if I wait til later there will be more complications for LO.

  • My GD is controlled via diet alone and me and baby are measuring fine, so I won't be induced because of it.

ETA: Just to make sure I was clear last night, my doctor doesn't WANT to induce me. It isn't just my choice. :) But really. I think I have to have a super mild case of GD. I've been on modified bed rest - no exercise - since a week after my diagnosis, I don't eat that different from how I ate before (less desserts now and more specific timing, really), and my weight gain was never a problem...and I lost some when I started following the GD diet.

  • Ha, I am also diet controlled and am doing great but baby is still huge.
  • they will not let me go past my due date, that's all they said. My baby is measuring normal..I'm on insulin and controlling my blood sugars just fine. They will let me go til my due date if I don't go on my own before. So, I have no idea. I think if i was measuring large, they may think about inducing early or c-section, but the only talk has been of the induction at my due date. I'm hoping in that last week to do some home remedies to get stuff  moving on my own. hee hee.
  • With DS I was induced at 39 weeks and he was suspected to be 9lbs, he ended up being 7lbs 15oz. This time around I am scheduled for an induction at 39 weeks 2 days :)

  • I didn't have GD with my first. They have stated that I won't be allowed to go past my edd, but not explained that further. Hopefully they are referring to induction because I'd rather skip the cs if at all possible. I'm a slow healer and that seems like a rough gig with a new baby.

  • I was induced with DS1 at 39w5d... I was diet-controlled and they WOULD have let me go until the following week (past my due date) before induction, but my doctor was going on vacation and I preferred her to deliver him, if I had to be induced.... he was 8lb 12oz and 21.5 inches long.

This time, I'm diet-controlled as well, and they said they won't schedule an induction unless I need meds or if there are complications... so I'm HOPING for a "natural" (read: still give me that epidural LOL) progression into labor.  And HOPEFULLY baby boy #2 will decide to come a week or two early! LOL

  • Why I didn't think of this last night, but I didn't. The specialist who told me that I would be allowed to go past my edd also said that the second time around, inductions were easier because your body knew what to do.

  • I don't have GD - but I am a type 1 diabetic and am insulin dependent. Baby is measuring perfectly and will likely be about 7.5 lbs when born. But they will still induce me between 38.5-39 weeks (next week!) if I don't go into labor before that.  The perinatologist feels like the risks of keeping him in the extra week outweigh the benefits he would get from staying in.  I believe the concern is placenta deterioration.
