I remember from my baby class I took that newborns don't have tears until a certain age but I don't remember what age that is. If it helps my DS is almost 12 weeks old and in the past week I noticed tears here and there when he cries.
It takes a while for their tear ducts to develop, and for tears to form. Also, many newborns get clogged tear ducts, and don't cry tears for this reason as well.
I read somewhere also that newborns do not have tears. However, when LO was in the delivery room, he cried and I noticed that he had tears. I pointed it out to the OBGYN and he said, " Of course babies have tears." I was so confused at that point. But yes, my LO had tears right from the beginning.
Re: silly question....
