I have a 15 month old and am in need of some recommendations. He will sit still for only a little bit before getting bored. He has sorters, blocks, stacking toys, a couple of Melissa and Doug puzzles, match box cars, etc.
Any suggestions as to what keeps your little ones busy at this age?
Re: 18 to 24 month old toys
I have a 16 month old girl. She is now very into books and she has a stuffed animal that was given to her by her aunt that she's now taken a lot of interest in. Mostly what she does is get books and climbs on us or gets her "Cowwie" and climbs on us lol. She's mostly interested in us. There's also the simple things, like getting an empty cup and taking the lid on and off for example.
For in the car, she has a Laugh and Learn laptop, Laugh and Learn CD player, and Laugh and Learn camera. Those all just stay in the car and she enjoys them.
ETA... things I have heard of on the board (but I have yet to do). Getting different colored boxes and putting objects of the same color in them to learn colors. Like get a red box and put a red firetruck, a red cup, a red cloth in there... things like that. Or get a box and pour some rice in there. Let them use shovels and buckets to dig in the rice.
At 16 months, DS is just having fun with playing with life- walking around, picking up what looks interesting, experimenting with it and moving on to the next shiny object. I am going to start buying toys that emphasize pretend play- a kitchen, blocks, a shopping cart, etc
At 19 months she is just now starting to get into toys more. Books, megblocks, stickers, a shapesorter, and the DK flashcards are all things that get played with daily. She still enjoys doing things more than toys though. Her Little Tikes slide and IKEA crawl tunnel have been lifesavers this summer. I can set up little obstacle courses for her to go through so she can burn off energy without going outside.
I probably need help with this too. At 17 months, DS is just starting to like books a little (mostly to just flip through - not to sit still long enough to listen to a book, heaven forbid).
He loves balls, opening & closing things (cabinets, drawers - and pulling things out of them), turning things on & off (light switches, flashlight, radio, an old tape player), climbing on & off the couch, chairs, etc.
He is totally not interested in any of the more mentally educational toys/activities (that would involve learning colors, words, body parts, animal sounds, etc.).... typical boy maybe?
At this age kids only sit for a few minutes. He's not bored with his toys, he's just distracted by other thins. New toys probably aren't going to keep his attention for much longer. But some of my son's favorite toys are duplos, books, and coloring stuff. He also loves his water tale.

We are at 17 months right now. Most of London's favorites are wooden toys from melissa & dog, educco, plan toys, etc. He also LOVES books, any sort of musical instruments, is obsessed with cars & trucks, and likes any sort of stacking cups/buckets and scoops etc with sand, hammer ball drop, wooden tool kit, any type of push pull toy, and sit/ride on things! Also anything that involves buttons that play a noise or music that he can dance to.These are the ones he plays with the most for a couple months now...
