3rd Trimester

Vibrating belly??

I was up until 3am lastnight finishing up the Fifty Shades trilogy. I was laying in bed and all the sudden I felt a strong vibration inside my belly. Like there was acellphone on vibrate inside of my belly. It was the strangest thing I've felt! I didn't feel anything like this with my first son during pregnancy. The vibration lasted a good 5-7 seconds and them started up again a few seconds later. It vibrated probably 3 times. It freaked me out, it felt like the baby was convulsing or something. He went back to normal kicks a minute or so later, but that was just such a strange feeling that Im a little worried.

Has anyone ever experienced this??

Sorry for any typos I'm on my phone

Re: Vibrating belly??

  • Our LO does that all the time, like he is throwing a temper tantrum in my belly. I love the feeling and I actually got it on video...

Is that what it looks like? As far as I know, it's totally normal Big Smile

See yours looks like he's doing flips or something. Mine wasn't such a big movement it was a low vibration it was nothing like a kick or punch. I don't really know how to explain it.

  • My LO vibrates from time to time.  Almost like an extended shiver.  It seems to be completely normal, but if it has you worried, call the doctor.  You are paying them to help you through this journey.  I'm sure they won't mind the call!
  • That's happened to me, too. I asked my doctor about it, and he said it was totally normal. He said it just happens as their nervous system is developing and that you might see them convulse like that every once in a while when they are out as well.

  • I've felt it from time to time.  It's like a little earthquake going on!

  • I've also heard sometimes that is not your baby but actually your uterus. You know how you get shaky sometimes when your muscles are exhausted and they start to tremble, your uterus can do that too! It's stretching and working so much right now. It's not harmful to the baby (though initially I was terrified thinking my little girl was having tiny seizures).

    Still feels strange!!

  • The sensation yall are feeling is your babies nervous system, the nervous system is learning how to communicate with the rest of their body. This vibration is a little fluke of connection between the babies nervous system and the rest of their bodies. This is the description my OB gave me. It's hard to explain but thats what it is.

  • I am happy to have read these comments... The NP at my OBN;s office said its the baby doing sommersaults... my cousins who herself is an RN said its common in third trimester and would have otherwise hiccups - neither sat well with me...

it makes sense that it would/could be the babies nervous systems...

This is what my OB told me. It makes sense to me. I have had similar things happen to my back and legs after hiking up a mountain.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

  • DS did it and he's fine so I'm not worried. Someone posted once that it was immature motor skills.

  • I had this not in my belly but over in my left hip a few times a day for a week or so. I was starting to think I was going to hatch some kind of flying insect. LOL Wink
