Does anyone else use the homemade laundry detergant (washing soda, fels naptha, borax) and fabric softener (white vinegar) on cloth diapers and baby clothes. Is it safe, is there any residue, or do you have any links that have info on it?? Thanks for any advice.

I use my own liquid detergent for all household laundry but not for diapers. I stick with BumGenius detergent. I know of several Mama's that make their own CD detergent but leave out the bar soap (which containg the oils).

As for the homemade fabric softner, it's a no no accross the board for all CD's. I just use plain vinegar for my household laundry but several friends use this...

OP, I just wanted to add that I DO use 1/4 cup of white vinegar in my first rinse. It's supposed to add a little more wear to your diapers (especially PUL and elastic) but right now we use mostly PFs and I'm willing to take that risk for how super clean they smell and not having to worry about residue. The GMD how-to-wash booklet that comes with your first order says vinegar isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially on 100% natural fibers.
