Yes and I actually got it for the baby (I don't normally get one). Since he won't be able to get a flu shot when he arrives (any time now - during a spike in the flu season), getting the flu shot while pregnant passes on some antibodies/immunity to him.

Nope. I am not planning on ever getting it. I was in contact with 2 people with swine flu, and didn't get it. They had the vaccine, and they got it. Funny how that works out! My LO is unvaccinated as well.
I get one every year including the year I was pregnant. I asked for preservative-free, while I was pregnant and this year since I am BFing. Not sure that it matters, but I figured less is more in situations like these.

Being in one of the highest risk groups, I didn't want to take any chances but I was freaked out by all of the uncertainty around a new vaccine. By the time the vaccine was actually available, I felt like I'd sorted out most of the misinformation and ultimately I feared the risk of H1N1 during pregnancy more than the vaccine. Most medical organizations recommend the vaccine for pregnant women. As one other mama mentioned, there have been a few research studies which show that vaccination during pregnancy can help protect babies up to 6 months after birth.
Not all flu vaccines are categorized the same for pregnant women, though - some are classified as Category B drugs and others Category C depending on the amount of testing completed. You can look up the current vaccine inserts online to find which drug category they belong to if you're concerned. And if you request the single dose shot, you can get it preservative-free. Preservatives are included in the vials to prevent bacterial contamination when a needle is inserted into the same bottle multiple times, but they are not necessary for single dose needles.

No. I have never gotten a flu vaccine. Plus the flu vaccine isn't always affective... they play a guessing game at which strains are going to be prevalent each year and often times miss the mark, which is why people still get the flu even though they got the vaccine.

No, I'm only five weeks pregnant, but I will not get one. There is no guarantee with a flu shot that it contains the right variance of the flu that season. Also, if you go to the CDC website and what is in a flu shot, it is kind of scary. I understand they suggest it for pregnant women, and I know people working in a hospital are require, but it's not for me. I am a student in the health field and interacting with people who are sick all the time and I have not gotten the flu, but I know many people who have had the shot and then get the flu. To each their own, but I'm a no-go on the flu shot!

After telling my mother that I did she flipped out and told me how its a bad idea and I shouldn't have done it blah blah blah...couldn't be undone so I didnt think anything of it. My mom, bless her heart, does a lot of research on the internet about health and vaccines and cancer treatments and so forth and she seems to buy into anything that says that what doctors are currently doing is "wrong". My sister on the other hand is a doctor that is currently finishing up her fellowship so she is still green about everything and even though she is not going to the the ob-gyn field she did to a 3 month rotation in ob-gyn. It was very fun for her for the most part and even got to deliver a baby that belonged to one of her high school classmates, it was pretty special and she learned a lot. She messaged me today and told me to do EVERYTHING my doc tells me to and not to worry about what my mother says (we both know she means the best though). And she fullly supported the fact that I got a flu shot because during that rotation she had two young mothers die of the flu in ICU shortly after giving birth. She said they tried everything that they could to bring them back but just weren't successful and to this day watching those two little ones lose their mothers still haunts her. (this was probably 3 or so years ago). She and I are NOT saying that if you don't get the flu shot you will die because obviously many haven't and are extrememly healthy and have healthy babies; but really talk to your doc about it. I've never had the flu shot before but I'm glad I got it now because of everything that I worry about, this is one less thing! But if I could possibly prevent at least one person from, God forbid, dying after giving birth...then that's awesome because everyone is different and our bodies handle giving birth differently. She also said that ultrasounds don't hurt the baby and "for the love of christ GET AN EPIDURAL!!!" I believe were her exact words LOL! Obviously that's completely up to you but my main point is I'm sure this subject can be argued many different ways but in the end, for me, I trust what my sister says even before what my doc says because I know with all my heart she will not allow me to do something that could possibly hurt me or her first niece or nephew. Yes. Dr. recommended it, and hubby got one too. Especially if you're expecting during flu season. I think they only tell you to get it if you're in your late 2nd, or 3rd tri.
I didn't get it when I was pregnant. I did a lot of research and decided against it after reading the product insert guide for the flu vacine. If you are interested read the product insert guide for the flu shot, you can find it by goggling it. There are several different companies that make the flu shot and you can read the same in each. I'm not trying to be snarky- I promise- but I would never take this advice. Good doctors respect informed patients who have well-researched questions. Good doctors take the time to listen to their patients and discuss concerns and options. Good doctors know that there is not a one-size-fits-all plan to healthcare (and I am not debating vaccines here- just healtcare in general).
I understand that she is your sister and that is why you trust her immensely. What if your doctor recommends off-the-wall stuff that your sister disagreed with, but you didn't discuss it with her b/c she told you to do everything he says to do? What if you don't feel comfortable with a decision your doctor made for you, but you do it anyway and it harms you or your child in some way?
I'm not saying you should ignore your doctor. I'm just saying that blind faith in a falliable human is quite naive. Do your own research. Be informed.

I did not for either pregnancies even though this time i was due during flue season.
