This. I did exactly this. I was sitting here thinking WTF, Diane is not another way to spell Dane.
For some reason I always thought "Daine" was the traditional spelling, but I have nothing to back that up. That being said, I agree with PP that "Dane" really can't be mucked up.
The AI in Daine may be mistaken for an Asian pronunciation as a long i not a long a so you may want to be careful there, but regardless it's your baby name him what you like!

I'm not a fan of unique spellings though. Daine looks like Diane and Dayne is just bad.
