I personally think Senate Bill 5 is awesome and hope other states follow suit. I'm so sick of unions and public employees thinking they are entitled to things. It will be interesting to see if it gets repealed or not.

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.
As of yesterday the polls said 56% were voting for it to be repealed...32% voting for the bill to stay. (It's the new Collective Bargaining Law in Ohio). My opinion is if you don't like the benefits, and what your job offers, do what the rest of us do and FIND ANOTHER JOB!
I don't know the bill so I don't have an opinion, however I as a teacher, I have watched unions help destroy the profession as much as NCLB. Hell if you can't fire someone because they suck at their job then what is the point.

such a misconception. Teachers can be fired. I have seen it countless times and have only been teaching 6 years. But ideas such as that make everyone think we are demons.

It's the extreme cases that make the news that give people those opinions. We had a teacher here locally who was terminated for watching pornography on a school computer during school hours. The unions fought for him to retain his job, even though the school board and obviously the parents and other teachers had a problem with his habits, and the fight stretched over three years and went all the way to the Supreme Court. Obviously it isn't always like that, but it is the sensational news that people hear the most loudly and base their opinions on.

very good point. that is a shameful situation. if administrators are doing their job and doing observations, routine firing is not at all impossible. But you are right, all people hear is the awful crap like that.
I can't help but say something here since I am a former Ohio Correctional Officer and it's a job my husband still does, so our family is in the middle of the Senate Bill 5/Issue 2 stuff.
I'll be the first one to tell you that the union does need overhauled because it has kept terrible people in jobs they don't deserve to have BUT the union also protects our ability to fight for proper safety equipment for the prisons (pepper spray, radios, riot gear, weapons, etc.) as well as our work conditions and other things. Police, Fire, and Corrections are the most dangerous jobs in the state in my opinion, and yes we absolutely chose to do these jobs but I don't necessarily think I should have to leave my safety up to some bureaucrat who has never even stepped foot inside a prison, much less done the job.
That being said, it makes me sick that union workers supposedly acted like fools during the rallies in Columbus. The idiots who did that crap give all of us a bad name.
I guess I just don't get the animosity here. Even if I had never worked a public service job I'd still vote no on the issue because I generally disagree with it, but then again I think it's stupid to mess with military retirement as well.
Re: s/o Anyone paying attention to what's going on in Ohio? Senate Bill 5 related.
