  I live in Brooklyn NY and agree with you.  I never had that name on my short list. Darby is alright, but not my style.

  I think it makes a really unattractive sound. It seems like it would be a monkey's name or something. NMS.

  It makes me think of the Kentucky Derby....but I can certainly understand how one adorable kid can affect how you feel about a name.

  It sounds like it should be a nn for something longer.  I know a little girl with that name.  It kind of surprised me bc her big brother is Jack.  It seems so unique compared to Jack.

  Our neighbor was named Darby. He was a man and reaaaaally old when I was 5. I've never heard of it used for a girl. And I love it for a dog. But not a girl.
