I'm facing a RCS if baby doesn't come by Thurs, so I've been told my midwife will try and strip my membranes if I'm more dialated at my appt tomorrow (I've been stuck at a fingertip since 37 weeks). I'm having a tough time finding concrete info on success rates, so I figured I'd poll the audience TIA!
1. How dialated and how many weeks were when you had your membranes stripped?
2. How soon after did you go into labor?
3. Did you have any other signs/indications that your body was prepping for labor prior to the membrane stripping? ie lost MP, irregular contractions, etc?
4. Any other relevant info?
Re: If you had your membranes stripped, pls come in!
1. How dialated and how many weeks were when you had your membranes stripped?
4 cm and 80%, 38 weeks and 3 days.
2. How soon after did you go into labor?
Had them stripped at 11am wednesday, started feeling contractions around 6pm, delivered at 7:25 am thursday.
3. Did you have any other signs/indications that your body was prepping for labor prior to the membrane stripping? ie lost MP, irregular contractions, etc?
Irregular contractions, lots of mucous/mp.
4. Any other relevant info?
I didn't find it to be extremely uncomfortable as many people do. I would stay active for a few hours afterwards and then give yourself time to relax.
1. How dialated and how many weeks were when you had your membranes stripped? I was 39 weeks to the day, 1 cm dilated and 0% effaced, though "quite soft," to quote my OB.
2. How soon after did you go into labor? My water broke about 12 hours after the stripping. I started contracting at the hospital about an hour after that.
3. Did you have any other signs/indications that your body was prepping for labor prior to the membrane stripping? ie lost MP, irregular contractions, etc? Nothing beforehand to indicate going into labor as quickly as I did. After the stripping though, I bled a bit (associated with the stripping), had horrible lower back pains starting about 7-8 hours after the stripping, and lost my MP about half an hour before my water broke.
4. Any other relevant info? I was instructed by my OB to do as much walking as was comfortable for me because apparently that will also help things along. With that said, I didn't do any walking that wasn't necessary that day.
2. How soon after did you go into labor? I had my membranes stripped on Monday Morning, and started having contractions that were really painful on Wed afternoon, but they did not get regular until late Wed night, and I went to the hospital on Thursday at 5am, as they finally were regular and really hurt! Had my boy at 1229pm that same day!
3. Did you have any other signs/indications that your body was prepping for labor prior to the membrane stripping? ie lost MP, irregular contractions, etc?had irregular contractions for almost the entire last month, and mild spotting here and there.
4. Any other relevant info? It hurts to have your membranes stripped, but I was so happy once it worked the 2nd time because I was so uncomfortable and huge, so ready to meet my baby boy!I had mine stripped more than once, but I don't remember when or how dilated I was at each one. At the last one, I was 4cm and 100%. That evening, I took castor oil. Twice. I will never do that again. I also walked and walked and walked. Ate spicy food. Etc. I never felt any contractions other than BH (and I really never felt those, either). I did lose MP gunk and thought I was getting close, but it would regenerate and then I'd lose more....annoying.
I was induced at 42w1d. I had been at least 3cm for 4 weeks by then. First baby.
1. How dialated and how many weeks were when you had your membranes stripped? 3 cm's at 38 weeks, 4 cm at 39 weeks-- both times my dr said "wont be more than a day now".... riiiiiiight.
2. How soon after did you go into labor?
Went into labor on my own at 41 weeks exactly.
3. Did you have any other signs/indications that your body was prepping for labor prior to the membrane stripping? ie lost MP, irregular contractions, etc? nope, but the stripping did prompt my MP and some terrible cramping both times.
Mommy by the Sea
1. How dialated and how many weeks were when you had your membranes stripped?
-39 weeks, 1cm dilated, 75% effaced
2. How soon after did you go into labor?
-Had my membranes stripped at 11:00am on Wednesday, was in labor at noon the next day, had LO at 11:15pm the following night (11 hr labor, 20 minutes of pushing...not bad for my first!)
3. Did you have any other signs/indications that your body was prepping for labor prior to the membrane stripping? ie lost MP, irregular contractions, etc?
-My circumstance was a bit different...I had gone into premature labor at 32 weeks, and ended up having contractions every day at random intervals (3-5 minutes apart for an hour, then nothing for 3 hours, every 5 minutes for an hour, then nothing for a few more hours, and so on and so forth). LO had been engaged in my pelvis from week 35, and by the time my membranes were stripped, he could feel her head sitting right there. I had lost my MP twice before this and didn't have a bloody show until right before the doc came in to break my water.
4. Any other relevant info?
-Prepare to be uncomfortable. The procedure itself isn't too bad, but it's definitely not the most fun thing in the world. I started having cramping about an hour after they were stripped and just felt generally uncomfortable the rest of the day, but didn't have any contractions until early afternoon the next day. I suggest just taking it easy afterwards. Drink plenty of water, kick back on the couch, watch a movie or read a book, nap if you can...because if you go into labor as fast as I did, you won't have time to do any of those for a while.
Good luck!
