You guys, I'm dying of exhaustion. Ok maybe i'm being dramatic, but I'm not sleeping very well - just I think with the anxiety of not telling everyone yet and the newness. What do you guys think - are you having coffee?
I was terrified when I saw someone say "no coffee" but after a bit more research I found that most consider 8-12 oz is harmless. Thankfully I've only been a one-cup-a-day girl for the most part so I can just stick with that!
I stop while I'm pregnant. I was a mocha-a-day girl before. Letting the mocha's go has been easy, because of MS the thought of one makes me want to vomit, and I'm saving a ton of $$. I am having a hard time without the caffeine though, especially since I work night shift. 7pm-7:30am 3 nights a week. It's getting easier the farther along I get (12wks now), but in the beginning it was rough! Especially since I have a toddler now. My first pregnancy I just napped all the time, no can do this time around.

I am drinking 1 cup a day.. and have plenty of friends who did the same. I actually googled the topic of crystal light and pregnancy in 1st trimester bc i am so thirsty and it pulled up a link to the livestrong.com site. it said you can still get lots of water by drinking crystal light but non of their tea's bc they have caffeine. And then I also read same - that up to 12 oz of reg coffee a day is ok. Anyone else so thirsty??
I have a cup of coffee every morning. Yesterday I bought half caff instead of "full strength", just so I won't feel sbad about it. I think I've had one diet dr. pepper since I found out. Not cutting back completely, just a big reduction.
I love my coffee, but as soon as I found out I was pregnant I quit aall caffeine...they say a little is ok (not sure the exact amount) but that amount includes ALL caffeine in coffee, tea, chocolate, etc, so keep that in mind...from what I researched, they have also linked too much caffeine to miscarriages, so I am not taking chances...I may be going overboard, but I am a first time mommy, so I can do that! It is really up to how you feel about it. I may have one cup every now and then after my first trimester, but as for now, NO COFFFEE for me! It's not worth taking any risks in my opinion...I will deal with being tired....usually drinking some ginger tea (no caffeine) helps me to sleep at night!
I just finished nursing school and had a 3 cup/day habit to going cold turkey once I found out that I was pregnant. Slowly dying for the coffee, so I'm going to buy some decaf tomorrow and have at least 1 cup because I can't take it anymore.
One cup in the morning, and sometimes an iced tea later in the day. I don't drink soda, so I get less than the allotted 200 mg per day. My OB said this was fine.
I was drinking green tea until the morning sickness hit. Now if I had any type of caffeine my stomach would churn for hours. So no. Not because I don't want caffeine while pregnant, just no because it makes me sick.
With my first pregnancy I stopped right away and never drank coffee until after birth. Then with my second pregnancy I didn't stop I had a bad habit of two+ coffees a day at that time and reduced my intake to one a day.
Now, I just woke up one day and it didn't want coffee, but on the days when I'm feeling better from the m/s if I'm running errands I will spoil myself with a starbucks. I don't drink decaf, just regular, and I only have a couple a week tops!
I usually drink half caff and I continued at the beginning of my pregnancy until the m/s hit. I've had a cup or two since but I'll probably start drinking it again now that I'm feeling better.
I actually stopped coffee and Coke Zero once I found out I was pregnant. I will wait through the first trimester (this is my first, so I'm probably being extra careful), but once I get to the second tri.....bring on the Coke Zero! I'll probably have one a day or every other day. I actually love diet coke MORE than regular. At work, we had a ton of diet cokes left over after a meeting and they were just PILED in the refrigerator. When I opened the door to get my lunch one day and saw them.....I literally stood for a good 15 seconds just starring at them!!

I am the same way! I LOVE diet coke, but could care less about real coke. I have cut out caffiene altogether for the first tri, but my doctor said it was fine in moderation. He said a cup of coffee in the morning and 1 diet coke a day are fine (but I'm a first timer and overly cautious for sure!) I did slip a small sip of my sis in law's dc last night

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I drink my one cup (57mg) of caffeinated tea each morning. About once or twice a week, I have iced tea or a soda. If I make iced tea at home, I make decaf anyway because it keeps me up at night if I drink caffeinated iced tea with dinner.
Up to 200 mg/day is acceptable, but as a previous poster said, this also includes the caffeine in chocolates and other foods.

I was at first and only stopped because the thought of it now makes me want to barf. When the nausea goes away I will drink it again. A cup a day if fine. With my son I drank it when I wanted.
I stopped drinking coffee. However, I still have some caffiene here and there in other forms. But as stated above, studies show 1-2 cups a day is fine. I try to limit all forms of caffiene including chocolate.

No I haven't had any coffee since I got my BFP 2 weeks ago. I miss it so much! Yesterday I did get a decaf at Starbucks which actually was not that bad.

Hello- Tomorrow I will be 40 weeks pregnant and I have consumed one 8 to 12 oz cup of coffee almost every day for my entire pregnancy. I've seen Dr.'s in Japan, Hong Kong and the US and they have all said that caffeine in moderation is totally fine. I have had a healthy and happy pregnancy and my baby boy is doing perfect. I've been weening myself off caffeine the past couple weeks because I plan on breast feeding and I've read that if you drink coffee while breastfeeding it could effect the baby's sleep. If you are having a healthy, normal pregnancy a little coffee every day is perfectly fine.
My book Your Pregnancy week by week, warns against drinking Green tea in your first trimester for the complications it can cause and it ups your risk of Miscariage. Did you doc tell you it was fine? I have missed out on it my last 2 pregnancys.
As for drinking coffee, I slow to a cup a day untill I wean my self down to decaf. If I need it, I let myself have it. Theres nothing wrong with a little caffine.
As long as you keep your caffeine intake for the day under 250mg you are totally fine. Many women have been scared into thinking that any caffeine will hurt their baby but this is just not true. Let's not forget that chocolate has caffeine too! As long as you are within this safe range there is no risk. 250mg is about a cup of coffee. I switched over to lattes because they have less caffeine than a cup of coffee. The Starbucks website nutritional facts page tells you how much caffeine is in your fave drink
I hardly ever drink caffeine anymore. Especially when your so early on...pregnancy is the only time you have to feed your baby exactly what you want it to be fed...why not try decaf or even better get a surge of energy from a banana or water
I also have reduced the caffeine intake...but still drinking soda/coffee. I was advised by my OB: a can of soda, or one cup of coffee was very much ok!
I do. After talking to my doctor she let me know that some coffee is not bad as long as I am not having a ton of caffine like drinking coffee and having choclate at the same time. i drink nothing more than 12oz of coffee a day.
I was drinking coffee everyday. When I found out I was pregnant my doc said that I could have a cup a day and it wouldn't hurt. I tried cutting it out completely, but I can't take the exhaustion anymore. I can fall asleep at anytime and any place. I tried decaf for the first time and it pretty much tasted the same as my regular coffee I was used to and I was more alert then without any coffee. I'd say go for it.
my doctor told me I can have up to 2 cups per day. But I've really only drank coffee on the weekends. I'm dragging terribly though! but make sure to drink lots of water and make sure you are getting enough calories!
I have had a cup of coffee everyday of my pregnancy. I am currently 23 weeks and I just couldn't give it up. I think it is perfectly ok. I believe it is safe to have up to 2 cups of caffeinated drinks each day during pregnancy.
Re: Are you guys drinking coffee?
One little espresso every morning.
Iced tea at lunch usually.
no, i am not.
just dont get an iv of it and you will be fine.
Quit coffee right after I found out... not cause it's bad... cause it makes me hurl... Lol.
I have pepsi instead now in the mornings and one in the afternoon... caffeine is fine in moderation...
