First Time Moms: Are You Showing (even bloat)?

I have been bloated and looking "pregnant" for weeks now. The bloat has not let up at all it is only making my stomach look bigger and bigger as the weeks go by. I've officially decided to stop trying to explain to people that I'm more bloat than bump. I literally look about 5 months pregnant and it shocks everyone that I could bloat so bad. Most people just assume that though I may in fact be bloated, I'm probably just showing. Even though I know its really to early to show much I've decided to just go with it. Does anyone feel like they are noticeably showing at this point?

  • I can tell but it is not obvious at all.
  • I'm in the same boat as you.  Big bloat belly.

  • I'm definitely showing. I'm petite so my bump is noticeable, and very much so on days when I'm bloated. I thought that "skinny" and "fat" days just wouldn't happen anymore, but they certainly do! I went to the grocery store the other day and a woman actually came up and rubbed my tummy and asked how far along I was. When I told her she just had a confused look on her face! It was priceless. Just embrace it! When else in a woman's life is it socially acceptable to be as big as a house and still cute!?!? But if you notice it getting really bad or if the bloating is really bothersome just call your OB. Our office always gets calls with just simple questions and concerns like that so don't feel like you're bothering your OB's office. Thats what they're there for! Hope that helps!
  • Up until about a week ago, I had major bloating problems. It seems to have let up some, but I still feel like I need to pick my loosest shirts to wear to work so none of my coworkers guesses anything. In terms of an actual bump, I have a very small one that DH and I can feel and see, but nobody else could see it yet.

  • I bought some maternity jeans this weekend if that tells you anything.

  • I have a HUGE bloat belly and it totally looks like baby bump. I'm kinda where you are and instead of explaining about the bloat I'm just going to go with baby bump...most people don't want to hear about your bloating issues anyway.

I bought under the belly maternity jeans this weekend and I'm in heaven now.

This. And this morning one of the Admins here asked me if I had lost weight! I wanted to kiss her, she obviously doesn't see how I squeezed into my jeans and they're being held up by the button extenders. Stick out tongue

  • Me and DH can see, but I don't think it's obvious to others yet. On Saturday, it just seemed to come out of no where. We're 12 weeks 3 days, the ticker's a little behind, so I'm not sure if its an actual bump or not.

  • My  "bump" is most prominent at night, after I eat which means is definitely not all baby bump quite yet!

I just noticed my ticker girl has a little bump going on now, so maybe I'm right on track to start seeing some differences. Exciting Big Smile

  • I dont really know if I am or am not.  I didnt have a flat stomach to begin with...so it's hard to gage.  But my lower abdomen does feel tight, where as before it didnt.  My husband said I'm starting to look pregnant (but he couldnt pin point exactly why other than to say I was "rounding out.")  LOL.

  • I can't decide.  Some days I feel fine...normal.  Saturday I felt like I couldn't even button my pants.  I don't think it helped that we ate leftover pizza for breakfast.  I think it really depends on what I eat, which makes me think it is bloat and not baby.  I also have a tipped uterus and don't feel that little hard spot that a lot of people talk about.  I go to the doc on Thursday though, so I will find out where the ol' uterus is then.

  • Tons of bloat, but that's about it. I think it might be hardening up a little bit way down low, but nothing anyone would notice.

  • Not showing here.  Just "feeling" larger and clothes don't fit right.  I'm pretty sure I'm just bloated.

One of my friends just started showing and she's at 20 weeks.

  • I have been wearing maternity pants to work for a month now.  I have the worst bloat and because I'm petite (5'1") I look WAY more pregnant than I am.

  • I've only started noticing anything other than just bloat about a week ago. At church I had 3 people tell me they think I "popped out" overnight and seemed really excited. My tummy is definitely harder and rounder. I'm really excited for the baby bump and I think it's finally happening!

Needless to say, I tried to button my work pants this morning and didn't have much success... and I can't do the button/rubber band trick because they're a different kind of fastener. I think I'm going to have to bring out the bellaband tomorrow.

  • I feel like I am, and I'm pretty sure it is all bloat.  I have a couple of work dresses that just don't hang the same way over my belly anymore.  I have actually lost weight, so it is not chub at this point, but that is what it looks like to me.

  • I think it depends a lot on your body type and the natural elasticity of your skin. I've been showing since 8 weeks - I'm also carrying twins - and I feel like just recently this past week almost all of the bloat is gone and it's now a hard baby bump. So I am one of those people that are visibly showing and I already can't hide it. I wear DH's shirts to bed and you can still tell lol

I think it's possible that you're showing but I know that early on (before 8 weeks) people were trying to say I had a bump even when I didn't at all. I think sometimes people do read into it because they're excited. Either way enjoy it! I can't wait till I hit the second trimester and I get the "energy" and happy pregnant woman vibes that I keep hearing about.

  • All the time, I feel like I'm huge. The only time it's gone down is after I took some Gas-X, but I don't want to take it for vanity's sake and just leave it for when I really need it because I'm uncomfortable.

I'm in maternity pants now and have been living with a belly band for WEEKS. Embarrassed

I've said it once, I'll say it again - anyone who rubs my stomach without permission is getting a throat-punch.  Honestly.  I would have told her I wasn't pregnant and she should keep her disgusting hands to herself lol

I've been bloating for a while now.  Some days I've been wearing maternity pants bc my regular pants just aren't comfortable at all.  I must be having a less-bloated day today bc I'm wearing regular pants.

  • I don't think that I have a bump yet, but DH says it sort of looks like there is one.  I think it is harder to notice the changes when you are looking everyday.  I do feel like some of my pants fit differently, and when I think back to early July I can see that there is a difference.  I should have started taking pictures every week.

  • I broke down and bought maternity pants on Saturday because on Friday I couldn't even get anything to zip. I think it's still just bloat but I'm thankful for the maternity pants.
  • Totally showing... at first it was crazy bloat, but now it's babies. I had a little belly chub to begin with, but my stomach is definitely a bump now... although it's annoying that tight shirts are starting to ride up, I actually like my belly :)

A throat punch! Hahahahaha! That's awesome! I think the first time that happens (if that ever happens) I'll likely be caught off guard and not sure what to do. But I definitely don't want randoms touching my belly. There may be a baby in there but that baby is still inside MY body and you wouldn't just come up and rub my belly any other time so back off!

  • I'm 9 weeks.  No bump in the uterus, but a ton of bloat.  Thank goodness that flowing tunic-style tops are in fashion or it'd be a lot harder to hide.
  • I am the same exact way!!! So nice to hear others say that. I actually took a picture when I hit 9 weeks (I think it was 9, maybe 8), and I decided not to show anyone because I look like I'm about five or six months too! Weird!

  • Definately big time bloat! I really, like you, look much more pregnant than I am, definately going to have to switch to maternity pants/skirts soon!
