Breastfeeding

What do you use for leaking at night?

DS is 15 days old and I seriously leak SO much every night.  I know I'm not making a ton of milk bc I have supply issues but I always wake up soaked.  I have tried disposable pads, disposable pads that stick to my bra/tank and the washable pads.  Any other tricks you ladies use?  I feel so gross waking up covered in breast milk everyday.

  • I can honestly say I have never tried anything else.  This may seem totally out of the park, but have you tried a maxi pad (maybe an overnight one)?  They're supposed to be super duper absorbent, so why not, right?

  • I have reusable pads that are made from bamboo...bamboo is 10x more absorbant than cotton and the more I wash them the softer they are.  I bought 3 pairs and wash every other day.  I haven't had any problems, any leakage and I love them.  You can find them at buybuy baby.

  • A lot of that may actually be sweat. Those first 2-3 weeks I sweat so much, it was awful. I would wake up covered in milk and sweat and would go directly into the shower. I sleep in the cheapy bra tanks from Kohls with disposable breast pads. The first month I would take a small receiving blanket and put it in the bra part. Starting on the right side, underneath my boobs and back up the left. Any extra I put right down the middle. Honestly it was the only thing I could do from feeling absolutely nasty all night. Finally the sweating stopped, my supply started evening out and I wasn't leaking all night long.

  • DD is a month now, so I don't leak as much overnight, but I would tuck a cloth diaper folded the long way into 3rds into my sleep bra. They're pretty absorbent and still breathable. I also second the PP about night sweats early on. I also sleep on a towel to keep from milking the bed, although I've not leaked through onto it yet.
