How big was your baby at 36w?

Just had my growth scan this morning, and LO is measuring 6lbs 14ozs with a month to go! DD was 7lbs 2oz when she was born, so I'm potentially looking at a big 8lb'er if s/he continues to gain the .5lb per week. Yikes!!

Sonographer said s/he is in the 65 percentile, but I'm curious where others weighed in.

  • My last growth ultrasound was at 35 weeks and he was 7 lbs 2 oz which is the 95%.  I'll have another next week but my doc said to expect him to be at or close to 8 lbs by that time.  Very rough estimation of birth weight should he go to full term would be between 9.5 and 10 lbs.  DS was only 8 lbs 2 oz and came a week early so I just don't see this guy being that big in the end.

  • At my  34 week growth scan, baby was estimated at 6lbs 7oz so I am looking at a big baby too. Doc said this DD is in the 87th precentile!

DD#1 was 8.9 lbs and she was born at 37 weeks.

  • Apparently I am the only one who isn't getting a growth ultrasound? I had an u/s at 28 weeks and was told that was the last one I would be getting. Let's just hope my baby doesn't turn out to be like 10 lbs Stick out tongue

  • at 36w4d my little one was measuring 5lb 14oz.

  • I am not having anymore either. I had one at 28 weeks as well.  They told me since they know my kid is head down unless there is a problem there will be no more ultrasounds.
  • My last ultrasound was at 18 weeks.  No growth scan for me!  I wonder if that's typical?  My doctor estimated last week that the baby would be on the small side - 7 to 7.5 lbs.

  • I had one at 37 weeks and LO was measuring 8.5. I'm 39 weeks now, if I do not deliver by Friday doc is soon another ultrasound to make sure LO hasn't reached 10lbs!!!!!!!!
  • My 36 week growth u/s showed LO at 7lb7oz.

I wasn't really supposed to have one either ... I asked my M/Ws how "all these people" (see also: Bumpies) knew how big their babies were at 36+ weeks, and she asked if I wanted to have an u/s. They have a sonographer come to the office on Weds mornings, so we just made our 36 wk appt for today so I could have an u/s "for fun". Now I kinda wish I didn't know!

  • 36 weeks... Almost 8 lbs :-/ ya, yikes, he's gonna be big! My DD was 7.3 when born... I'm going to have lots of newborn stuff to give away :-( he'll probably hardly, if ever, wear it.

  • At my scan on 36w 5d, I was told baby measured 5lbs 13 oz. (75th percentile, I think)  I was hoping for a peanut but it looks like baby is on target for around 8 lbs.

  • I don't have anymore u/s either- only the 20 week one.

But out of curiosity I asked my MW at my appointment today if there was a way she could estimate how big LO is. After feeling around and measuring my tummy, she guesses he's about 7.5 lbs and will probably max out at about 8.5 lbs when he's born.

Either way, her measuring or the u/s are both just that-- estimates!

  • Not that I'm trying to be a total killjoy....

But I have head that these estimates are often wrong.  My BFF was told she was going to have a 9 lb baby and she had only an almost 6lb one.  Her Dr even induced her because the "baby was so going to be so big" so they induce her...and baby is barely 6 lbs.  hmmmmm...........

When I asked My dr why so many people get growth scans and I haven't had any she said doesn't do growth scans because they are often just guesses...that are often off.  Unless there is a problem she doesn't see the point.

So I guess Im just in for a surprise!

  • I had my growth US yesterday and he is big! They estimated 7lbs 9oz. he is in the 93 percentile overall with measurements, his head measuring at 39 weeks and his belly 38. We had they measure his foot length for fun and it was 7.42cm! No wonder my ribs are hurting with them stuck up there!

I don't get a growth u/s either, so I have no idea how much LO is weighing. DH and I were both average sized babies (I was 6lbs even and DH was 7lbs something), so hopefully LO takes after us. Surprise

  • "Estimated" my DS at 7lbs 7 ounces

  • Yeah... At 37w my lil girl was estimated at 8lbs 11oz!! All measurements are in the 90th to 95th percentile except her shoulders/belly which is 97.5 percent. My fundal height has been 3 weeks ahead consistently and I've had four growth scans that have estimated her measurements between 2-3 weeks ahead. I do not have GD either. I know these can be way off... But I'm thinking she is going to be a lil chunker!
