TTC after 35

First Cycle with "help" and my brain won't let me be positive

So, after getting a BFP on the first cycle of trying in 2008 we lost our baby girl at 21 weeks.  Started trying again a few months later and had no success.  Finally this April we went to a Fertility Specialist and I had some blood tests and a hysteroscopy and found out I have PCOS and had polyps in my uterus.  Had those removed via D&C and took Progesterone for 2 weeks.   When my next cycle started dr put me on Chlomid and on day 12 I went in for an ultrasound to make sure I had some folicles ready to produce.  They gave me a shot in the hip and told me to go home and have fun for the next couple of days.   It was our anniversary and my husbands birthday was the next day so that worked out well.  I am currently in the 2ww and VERY hopeful, but my brain won't let me think that it may actually be positive.   I really pray it is (we are paying everything out of pocket) but after our journey (though it's been easier than a lot of others out there)  it's a challenge to keep the optomistic attitude.

Anyone have a similar story and have success on the first try?

  • I'm so sorry for you loss.

I hope this works for you. I know there was one lady on this board who got pregnant with her first IUI. I don't know if there are any who got KU with just Clomid on the 1st cycle.

Most of us who are regular posters to this board have been through many cycles trying, and some have had multiple IUIs and/or IVFs. Maybe look over at the Pregnant after 35 board for success stories.

     Good luck w/ your 2ww!

  • I know, that's what scares me...  We may be living in a tent by the time we get a bfp after spending all of our money.  How does everyone afford it.

  • Good Luck.  I'm many cycles in and MOST of the time am very positive.  Not today, but usually.

Some days are better than others.

  • I am so sorry that you went through tha intense pain with your baby girl! My best friend had a son who died when she was 18 weeks. We are oop too and can only do one IUI so I just keep telling myself, "Anything is possible." I hope you get your BFP!
  • I'm sorry for your loss.

So far we haven't had any expenses other than co-pays for appointments, surgery, and scripts - I don't know if we could afford anything else.

I am currently not a candidate for anything but injectibles (not IUI or IVF).

I'll cross my fingers that this cycle works!

    Good luck!
