23 weeks pregnant. Baby has dilated lateral ventricle...

Hi ladies,

Has anyone had any experience with this?  I went for my 20 week ultrasound and then had to go to the hospital to the Antenatal unit to get a follow up ultrasound done because my OBGYN said that that baby's lateral ventricle was slightly dilated.  It was measuring 9.5-9.9mm.  That's on the high side of normal.  Normal is considered under 10mm.  When I went for my follow up ultrasound, the doctor told me that they consider this mild ventriculomegaly.  Even though it's still under 10??  Ugg.  I'm trying to stay calm and to stay optomistic.  Just wanted to see if anyone has gone through the same thing.  I have another ultrasound scheduled with my regular OBGYN next week and then at the hospital on the 17th.  I'm praying that the size has gone down.

I have a healthy 2 year old boy at home.  We had no complications with him.

Thank you!

Tara

  • I'm sorry, Tara. I have no experience with this but I'm sending T&P (thoughts & prayers) your way for a second happy and healthy baby!! Please keep us posted. Have you been over to the High Risk board? (Link on left) Maybe they have someone over there who's had a similar experience. Best of luck!

     Thanks :)

  • I also don't have any experience but wanted to say if it is still within the "normal" range they are probably just taking precautions and being careful. I would try not to worry yet. Thoughts and prayers headed your way!

  • This happened with my DD too.  My ob wasn't too concerned-she said it happened with her baby too.  By the time I had my follow-up ultrasound a month later, everything looked fine.  Hopefully, it will work out the same for you too.

  • We were told the exact same thing with DD.  Then sent us to a specialist who did another u/s and determined it was just fine. He said it's easily measured incorrectly.  DD is perfect :)  Try to relax....easier said than done.
