NBR: Can I sub something for the oil in a standard cake mix?

I'm making my mom's birthday cake and I just realized I don't have any vegetable oil. Can I sub something else in the mix?

I have olive oil, butter crisco sticks.

TIA!

do you have a can of unspiced pumpkin? so you would leave out the oil and water and do the can of pumpkin and two eggs.

I do have applesauce. I'm going to try that. Hope it works, because if it doesn't my mom will surely let the room know!

You can use the crisco, same measurements.

Yep, applesauce :) You can also add up to a cup of sour cream (if you have it on hand) to make it more moist and really good. Sounds gross, but I promise it's not!

I always just use melted butter because I hate the taste of oil in cake.

Plain yogurt (especially greek yogurt) works well also. Its one of my fave oil subs.

I use olive oil in brownies all the time and they turn out great (you can taste the flavor a little bit in the batter but not after they're baked). I think they make them moister too!

I didn't know this!  Wow, thanks for the tip.  I looooooove Greek Yogurt (so nutritious!!), and have tried the applesauce trick before, but never yogurt.  Now I'm excited to try it :)

    You can also use mayonaise.

You can also use 12oz of seltzer water or soda.  In that case it is just the soda and the cake mix. No oil or eggs.  It won't be quite as dense but very moist and lower in calories.

Crisco will work, or if you have a pudding cup that will work well too.  The pudding cup makes your cake sooo moist!
