subject line says it all. Is it ok to already be 3 cm? Does this mean that my little buddle will come a little early. Ok by me as long as she is healthy. Just wondering.
don't worry too much because people can walk around at 3-5 cm for weeks. i hope it means you will go sooner than later but not necessarily. what did your dr. say?
I walked around at 2 cm's from 35 weeks to 41 weeks with DD...she never put me into labor either ..... the dilation, while good, doesn't mean anything is immediately impending ..... you could be 3 cm's for weeks. Hope she comes sooner than 41 weeks for you though, that stunk!
Ditto the pp. Not to discourage you, but you could be 3cm for the next 5.5 weeks! My doctor doesn't even check first time moms before 40 weeks because the dilation doesn't mean much.
ok. Dr. didn't say anything other than see you next week but my family....Well, lets just say they put me into panic mode. OMG, they all said, you're going to have her next week!
I'm ready to not be pregnant and waddling around but not really ready to have her yet.
With my son (baby 2) I was 3-4 at 35 weeks, and then progressed a little bit each week and was 5-6 at 39 weeks. I needed to be induced. haha.
The good news is that once my doctor broke my water my labor was lightening quick. I went from 6-10 in about 90 minutes, pushed for 15 minutes, had my baby (all 9 pounds 11 ounces of him).
So no, it really doesn't mean much for when the baby will come. But if you are lucky it will shorten your labor when it does happen!

It's true that you can be dilated for weeks but in my experience I wasn't. With DS I went I for my 36 week appt and was 3cm dialated and 80%. My water broke 6 days later and I had him at 37w. Good luck!
Unfortunately, dilation and effacement have no bearing on when you might deliver. I went through almost 24 hours of labor and was still at 4 cm. Then all of a sudden, I went from 4-10 in about an hour.
I've also heard of women who've spent days at the first stage of labor before their bodies kicked in and sent them straight into the pushing stage.
Hang in there - you're almost done. Just remember: there isn't a woman in history that was pregnant forever. Patience precious

As other people have said, it doesn't necessarily mean anything. It could mean that LO is coming any day (or hour) now, or you could go right up to or even past your due date. I sure do wish it was more of a sign than that, but unfortunately, it's not.
It doesn't have to mean anything will happen soon. I was dialated to 3 for three weeks and then nothing was happening on its own. I didn't loose my plug, my water didnt break on its own and I was 40 weeks and 3 days and had to be induced
I wouldnt get your hopes up.. sadly... because you could be pregnant for 4 more weeks... I was 3 cm at my 36 or 37 week appointment and didn't go into labor until 40w 3d.. It was a long several weeks thinking that it could happen at anytime and it did not.
Dr. agian today. Not too worried about her coming just yet. She is still sitting high under my ribs. I think she thinks squishing my lungs is a funny game.

Like the others are saying, it is really hard to tell what will happen.
I was 3cm and 50% effaced at 35 weeks with DS2. He came at 37w5d.
GL!
