Swimming with LO

I stayed at a hotel this weekend and seeing the pool made me think of taking DS in it. He loves his bath and I'm curious to see what he would do if we just floated him on the surface and stood him up on the top step or something. My question is...what should he wear? I assume they make swim diapers? Where do you get them? Also, what kind of effect does the chlorinated water have on LO's skin?

We're back home now, but I would love to take him to a pool sometime.

They have disposable swim diapers at Target and Walmart. I got a reusable Bummis one from Amazon for about the same price as a pack of those. I also bought LO an iplay swimsuit that has a built in diaper.

We took her into a public pool a few weeks ago when we were on vacation. She didnt seem to notice she was even in a pool to be honest. This summer, I'm definitely taking her to my pool at my apartment complex that barely gets used.

Thanks! Good to know he wasn't missing out on anything and nice to know where to get the dipes if I need them in the future.

We took DD in a pool at a hotel at 3 months old. They had swim diapers at the front desk, or you can also buy them pretty much anywhere like Walmart or Target. She wore the swim diaper and a onesie. Had a blast!

disposable or cloth swim diaper- I don't think we were using sunblock that early on DS so I bought him  a sunproof shirt (like a rash guard) and a big floppy hat.  You can also get things they float in with a shade canopy attached (of course you need to have at least one hand on them at all times regardles of the floaty).  I was always really quick to rinse the chlorine off- DS thought it was tons of fun in the pool : )  it is people soup though : (

Huggies makes the swim diapers, we got them at walmart. Our swimming pool starts lesson as early as 4 months so DS is starting in April when the next session starts. He is 5 months now. We took him for a public swim and he liked it, we have a tot pool with lots of rubber ducks floating around, which he loved.

walmart sells reuseable swim diapers in the same section where they sell the swimsuits that have the floaties built in them and pool toys.  they cost $5 and they fit Joy very nice.

We've been taking DS to swimming lessons once a week for two months now. He seems to like it! It really tires him out!

The pool we go to is strictly for babies / children and is not chlorinated. From what I understand, 'they' recommend not putting babies into chlorinated water until they are 6 months old.

Some states/facilities have regulations about how many layers babies need (swim diaper, trunks, etc.). I ordered iPlay reusable swim diapers after asking the CD board for recs. Our natural parenting store has a low-chlorine pool, but we still give him a bath after sessions.

Thanks again! Swim lessons sounds sooooo neat, but that means Mommy getting in the pool which doesn't sound neat. I would be the one wearing t-shirt and shorts Smile
