I'm going to my husband's cousin's shower today. She did the book thing instead of a card (I don't want to hear how tacky that is- we're doing it at my shower too). I've never met this cousin though and I don't know what to put inside the book as my note. Also, do I sign DH's name to the book or just my own?
I agree with the book thing. Cards cost 3-5 dollars, I know that I buy books for $3 at Ross because I have already started collecting them. I would much rather have the books than some card that I am going to throw away.

I don't think the book thing is tacky -- I'm a librarian and my friend is doing this for one of my showers. It's not hard to find books for the same price as a card, and I put a lot of inexpensive stuff like pacifiers, etc., on my registry so people can buy me a cheaper/small gift if they want.

Beautifully said. I might have to steal this for the future!
