Just curious, but my doctor hasn't had me pee in a cup since my first visit at 12 weeks. I hear everyone else talk about doing it at every appointment, along with checking weight, BP, etc. I guess at this point it doesn't really matter lol. Just wondering..
My doctor's office doesn't have a lab, so I've only given urine samples twice when other blood tests were ordered so I had to go to the lab anyway.
Honestly, I think it's overkill for an uncomplicated pregnancy. Doctor's offices bill by the test. If I had to guess why it's common in the States, that would be why.

My docs office doesn't bill each little test strip that I pee on.
Overkill or not, I'd like to know if I have elevated sugars or protein levels in my urine.
I don't pee at my visits. I only did that the first time I went at 8 weeks. My doctor says they only do it if there are other indications that there is a problem.

I have to, every visit, but I wish I didn't! The toilet in our lab has handicap bars on each side of it, and it's *impossible* to spread my knees wide enough for me to reach the cup under my belly these days. I always end up peeing on my hand! Also, yeah...my insurance gets billed $54 every time I pee in that cup. I only have to pay around $2 of that, but still!

I only peed in the cup once to confirm pregnancy. My friends freak out because they are not checking the urine but my Dr said they only test if you show other symptoms.

this. i pee in a cup every appt, and the nurse dips the little stick thing into the cup. it's not like they have to send it out to a lab.
I pee on a stick, not in a cup. But yes, I do it every visit and every time it has been the same. (Nothing going on.) It is getting hard to see that stick to actually make sure it gets peed on.

I pee in a cup everytime, and I DO NOT get charged for this at all. I check in, pee in the cup, get weighed and see the doctor at every visit. My pregnancy is high risk, but I see all the pregnant women going into the bathroom before they get weighed.
Glad to know y'all have such charitable doctors with free office supplies and nurses.
I think generally the harder you look for something wrong, the more likely you are to find it. That doesn't mean it actually correlates to better outcomes.
They check urine at every appointment, and I have not been billed for it at any point. Personally, I'm glad it is their practice to check each time I come in.

Neither my MW nor her backup OB bill for PIAC. Just a standard office visit.
My MW is pretty conservative (I have had minimal labs) but she still brings the strips with her. Maybe because I have has swelling she is more concerned than she otherwise would be?

I have only had to do it the last two times because my blood pressure was kinda high. Other than that, I didn't pee in a cup except for the first visit at 6 weeks.
I have peed in a cup every time I visit the doctors office since my first appointment. I believe they do it to check for sugar, etc. in the urine. I am not sure if it is standard practice, or something that my doctor throws in to be safe.
I suppose you could always ask your doctor why you don't do this, even though you are at the end, if you are really curious.

Hmm, I don't really get this logic. How would finding something wrong not be helpful? If you find it, you can treat it.

Yep, that's what they want you to think.
I'm just saying if you have a problem with zero symptoms, is it a problem?

I had a UTI with no symptoms a couple of weeks ago. Doctor told me if left untreated it could cause pre-term labor and other serious complications.
So yes, I do think even without symptoms, something can be a big problem. They only found it because they check my urine at every appointment.
At every appointment. And I have dip sticks that I use at home. My MWs don't do a lot of the other testing, so urine tests are used to determine if there is a problem.

Me and every pg woman in Europe...
I didn't talk my doctor out of this. She just clearly sees no value in having me do it. So I don't.

I don't think that's what I said. This was my personal experience. It is what it is. If you are comfortable with the treatment you are getting, fine. That is certainly between you and your doctor.
My OB does test each time, and they did find a potentially big issue I wasn't showing symptoms of. I can't make that not the case because it doesn't agree with your argument in this thread, and I was simply responding to your statement about not showing symptoms meaning there is no larger issue going on. For me, in my case, that wasn't true.

I had to at every appointment in the UK, so it is common in some places.
I do at every appointment. It's been harder lately & I have been missing the cup a lot. My belly blocks me from being able to see my business!
I have heard though that some doctors collect towards the beginning and then stop for a few visits. Just ask them if it makes you too worried.

Not sure which part of Europe you are referring to but my daughter was born in England and I peed in a cup for every appt.
