working ladies--

When are you leaving work? Are you waiting until your DD or leaving early?

Re: working ladies--

  • With my DS, I worked up until the day I had him. I plan to do the same thing with this baby. I want every bit of the 12 weeks at home with her.

  • I'm due May 11th,  but my last day is April 8th. (35.5 weeks).     My job involves a lot of travel and I don't feel comfortable driving 2+hours when I'm that pregnant.   Plus we are moving shortly after the baby is born, so I wanted some time at home before the baby arrives to start packing.

I get a year for maternity leave,  so I'm ok with starting my leave earlier.  If I only got 12 weeks, I'd probably work longer.

  • I will most likely be going into labor at work, unless my doctor tells me otherwise!

  • I plan to work until the day I go into labor.  There is no reason for me to use up my sick leave when I can still work.  I want as much time with my daughter as possible.

  • My plan is to work until my water breaks!  We'll see how well that plan pans out...

  • Waiting until I have LO.  I did the same with DS and was fine.

I also work in the hospital where I will deliver this time around, so it would actually be really convenient for me to go into labor while at work!

  • I'll be working up until I deliver (I wouldn't put it past myself to be on my laptop getting things done while I'm in the hospital) - I don't see the point in using my maternity leave, sick time or vacation time until after the baby arrives - I want every last second with him until I have to go back.

I'm taking vacation/misc leave to my due date, then I get a year off though. It seems silly to hoard my days when I have a full year off.

  • I plan on working as long as I can. I'm high risk and may end up on bed rest prior to delivery so, I can't plan that accurately till we get closer.

  • I plan on leaving around the beginning of May.  For sure by May 13.  (Due May 30).  It all depends on if I am in the middle of a project or not.   I plan to finish whatever I am working on.  I could end up leaving earlier, just depends on what we have going on here.

His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!

  • Working until LO arrives, I did this with DD as well.  I wanted as much time with LO as possible!

  • Because I have a long commute into the city, my midwife suggested I stop working around 36 weeks. I think that's crazy and don't want to waste my leave, so I'll work until d-day. My husband works in the city too, so we'll find a way to make it back home just fine if I go into labor at work.
  • I plan to work until I go into labor unless I am no longer physically able to do it.  I want to save up all my days for after his arrival.

  • I'm going to work as long as I can.  I've read that most twin moms are cleared to stop working at 28-30 weeks.  I can't imagine leaving in a week-and-a-half!  As long as my body can safely handle it, I will be showing up to work.
  • I will be working up until my due date.  I havent been at my job a year yet, so I have to take unpaid leave.  Im storing all my vacation and sick leave.

  • My plan is to take off 3 weeks before my due date as I get 18 weeks off after the due date regardless.  Those 18 weeks don't use my PTO and it's the max I can take (unless I have c/s then 20 weeks).  My first two children were born 3 weeks and 2 weeks before their due date so I'm hoping this LO is closer to his due date so I can have some time off prior to his arrival.

  • I plan to work until I go into labor (unless my MW finds a medical reason for me to stop working) since I only get 6 weeks STD (or 8 weeks with a c-section) off.  I would rather have as much time with my LO after he is born.

  • I am due May 7.  I am scheduled to work through the end of April and hope to be taking the full 3 mo. FMLA off.  I work about an hour away from the hospital and my DH is 50 minutes away from me during the work day, so I am a little nervous about going into labor at work.  Of course, if my DR expects me to deliver early, I may be leaving earlier.

  • I wish I could work up until my DD (assuming I'm physically able to) but the nature of my job requires notice to when the person covering me will need to begin.  It's not something that can happen last minute. So, I guess I'll have to decide how soon before my DD will be me last day.  Hopefully as the DD approaches my OB and I can determine how likely I'll be to go early/late/on time and choose a last day that way.

  • If all goes well, I'll be working till delivery. I work about 30 steps from labor and delivery, so I'd rather be working than at home at 40 weeks! :)

  • I am working until I go into labor. But for full disclosure, I am due may 31 and our last day of school is may 27. So IF dd2 makes it to due date, I will already be off work for summer break. However, my ob expects me to go into labor 1-2 weeks before due date. We will see!!

  • I'll probably stop work either one or two weeks before my due date (May 28), depending on how things are going.  But I have chronic high blood pressure and fibroids so I feel I'll be lucky if I can stay pregnant until just around my due date.

  • I am hoping to work until 3 days before my due date, but I plan on leaving about a week and a half before. I think I could work until the end with no problem since I have a desk job but my commute will end up being the deciding factor in whether I continue until my due date or leave early. I will be discussing this with my doctor toward the end of my pregnancy because my commute is about an hour each way and he may not want me to be that far away from the hospital during the last week or two.

  • With DD I worked up until about three days before I had her. DH and I own a retail store, and helping customers while having intense braxton hicks just got to be ridiculous so DH told me to stay home. I was happy to oblige! I expect to do the same this time around.

  • I'm in a bit of a unique situation since I am self-employed.  I don't have any real concrete plans for maternity leave.  I do have an associate and an assistant who will be covering for me while I am out.  I'm due the beginning of May.  I think around the middle of April I will have my associate available to cover client meetings and court dates (I don't want to take the chance of planning to be there and unable to do so at the last minute, and I imagine I won't feel like a suit and heels at 37+ weeks).  I expect to be doing some of the background work, that I can be doing from home or where ever, up until I go into labor.  After the baby is here I will take a few weeks completely off, but will then start back with the background work for several weeks before I am "officially" back to work.

I'm a SAHM now, but this is what I did when I was pregnant with DS.  That 12 weeks went by so quickly.

  • I'm working up until the day he decides to show up, since I only have three weeks of vaca to take and would like to take all of it after.

  • I wont be leaving until Im in labor!  or the Dr requires no work...
  • Right up until my DD. I can't afford to take time off right now- it's the busiest time of year. I actually will still work on leave (here and there) in order to keep some income coming in and to not go stir crazy.
  • I am a teacher, so I need to give notice so a sub can be put into place.  I am planning on going out a week before my EDD.

  • My due date is May 18th. My last day will be April 30th. Working in a "not your average" restaurant with a completely psycho boss-means you should get the f*ck out while you still have your sanity.
  • It's going to depend on my repeat c/s date, but I'll probably stop working a few days before it.

Me too but I'm also weaning off Zoloft 6 weeks prior to EDD and if that makes an already high-pressure job more than I can bear, I might take some PTO (or I might just stop weaning off the Zoloft - playing it all by year).

  • I'm a special snowflake.  My specialist is planning to pull me out within the next month (earlier, if I keep having BH contractions like I am) just as a precaution since I'm at higher risk for PTL. So, I'll probably be out from work 5 months total (2 of those unpaid!)

  • I can only be out of the office for six weeks total so I hope to be able to use all of that after the birth, not before.

My office isn't even a mile from the hospital.

  • I have an 1.5 hr commute.  My OB asked if it was possible for me to work from home for my last month, so I asked my boss to see if I can get permission to work from home from week 36 on.  If not, I will most likely be taken out of work early.

I am very fortunate to get 12 weeks at full salary and than a declining scale after (75%, 50%, 25%, 0% ~ I forget how many weeks for each) so we would be fine either way.  Tempted to get OB to take me out by week 39...
