I'm sick!

So 37 weeks pregnant, first week of maternity leave and now I have a vicious sinus infection!  Anyone else have one of these while pregnant?  What helped? I am miserable and terrified that our daughter will arrive while I am still sick.

Re: I'm sick!

  • I am sick too so I feel your pain! My Dr told me the only over the counter meds i could take was benadryl, but I would ask him or her and see if there's something else you can take. Those nose, nedi-pot things might help too.

    Feel better!

  • My midwife gave me a 5 day antibiotic. She assured me that whatever sicknesses I have when she's born, the baby will be immune to it for the first month. That's good to know, I was scared I wasn't going to be able to kiss my newborn!

I think it's amrythrizin or something. Just an antibiotic.

  • (((hugs))) I'm so sorry you're sick. Saturday I went to urgent care for a really bad sore throat and found out I had strep. It's been pretty miserable. I was able to get antibiotics for it but am barely starting to feel better now. I had a low grade fever and am now dealing with lots of congestion (ontop of the normal pregnancy congestion). Fun stuff.

Get lots of rest and fluids! Hopefully you'll feel better very soon!

  • I have had a sinus/throat/cold, etc. sickness of some kind since Thanksgiving. My OB said it probably won't go away until I deliver. The joys of pregnancy. I haven't taken anything, but the lists I've been given are:

Colds: Sudafed, Chlor-Trimeton, Benadryl, Robitussin-Regular Strength, Saline Nasal Spray, Cough Drops

    Headache: Regular Strength Tylenol/Acetaminophen

  • I've been sick with a bad cold for over a week now.  It's getting better, but really slowly.  My dr told me I could take Actifed, which did help, but made me sleepy so I only took it a couple of times.  I've just been using the neti pot, taking long hot showers and blowing my nose a bajillion times a day.  I think my abs are getting stronger from blowing my nose so much!

My midwife put me on a Z pack- Thanks for the immune system information.

Thank you everyone for all of your responses.

  • I have a cold not a sinus infection but I still think that Sudafed will work for that too. My OB said it is safe to take as long as you purchase one of the boxes you have to get from behind the pharmacy counter and not the stuff that's out on the shelf.

It's called azithromycin (AKA  a Z-Pack) and it is a *singing* miracle drug!

(Just please make sure you finish the whole pack even though symptoms might disappear by third dose, you don't want to make your monster strong enough to defeat this med, you might find yourself hooked up to an IV)

  • I've been sick for the past week too.  I'm hoping and praying it goes away before labor.

I've been pretty much doing the same thing each day and feeling overall pretty comfortable (for being stuffed up and 9 months pregnant and all).  I use saline nasal spray to loosen everything up there.  It seems to help a ton, especially right before bed.  And I have the humidifier on high next to my side of the bed and I take two really hot steamy showers a day.  And I've been drinking a ton of OJ!

  • I've been sick for the past three weeks with a cough and cold, and DH has bronchitis.  This week my dr prescribed a Z-pak (antibiotic) since she said three weeks was a long time to be coughing.  You can try a Neti pot, and a vaporizer in your room, and my dr said sudafed, robitussin, and tylenol are fine.  If it is in an infection though I would def call the dr and see if they will give you an antibiotic.  I hope you feel better soon!!
