I'm trying placenta encapsulation
I normally don't post on this board but due to the subject matter, I think my regular board might be a little freaked out.
I am so excited to try placenta encapsulation with my second baby (due in March). I had some post-partum issues with DS and am hoping this will help the second time around. I found a "placenta encapsulation specialist" that is going to do it for me at our house. I had been looking at do-it-youself kits but it's about the same price and frankly I doubt that's what I would want to do after I give birth anyway,
I was wondering if anyone on this board has done this or knows someone who has and what the experience was like. Or if you have any other advice on the subject.

awesome!! i had DS2's encapsulated. i don't have much time right now but would be happy to jump back on here tonight and talk more about it! i'm sooo glad that i did it!

you can do this even if you have a hospital birth - just make sure your provider and staff are aware, so they don't toss out the placenta. They'll send it home with you.
ditto this. we are having a hospital birth. it's in our birth plan and I will make sure everyone is fully aware of our intentions so nothing happens.
we just have to get the placenta out of our room in the first hour or two after the birth. so my mom or MIL is going to transport our "precious cargo" back to our house via cooler (like an organ for transplant, for example). the girl who's doing it for me will be kind of on call as I go into labor, since she will be preparing everything at our house (that part is required).
by the time I get home from the hospital, my 100 or so capsules should be ready for me!
I would clear taking home the placenta with your hospital in writing before the birth. We assumed the hospital would respect our wishes and the laws of our state that protect "products of conception" and let us take it. On our hospital forms, we wrote in that they could not dispose of the placenta in the appropriate place. Our preference was on our birth wishes sheet.
The dr on call when I started labor told us that he didn't care, but we would be up for a fight with the administration because of hospital policy. We said we would deal with it when the moment came. In the end, another dr was on call when I delivered--one who didn't really care much about our wishes--and she whisked it away in the hubub of the moment without even letting us look at it or with any time for our doulas to remind us to work it out.
Honestly, I still get upset thinking about it and I don't want that for you or anyone else. It never occured to me that our wishes would be blatantly disregarded or that hospital policy could be in contradiction to state law, so I encourage you to be over-prepared.
