Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Waiting to try again..should I get on Birth Control?

Hello Everyone.  First and foremost I want to give my sympathy for what you are all dealing with.  I found out during the 8th week of my first pregnancy that I had lost the baby in my 6th week.  I chose to have a natural miscarriage and I think for the most part it has all passed.  I have a doctor's visit on the 25th to make sure everything is clear.  My husband and I would like to wait a couple of months before we try again in order to grieve and for my body to get back on its regular cycle.  We would like to start again in spring (probably in May) and I am not sure if it would be better to get back on birth control.  I had been on it for years and the first month I was off of it, we got pregnant.  Is anyone else getting back on birth control? Thanks!

  • I would say yes, if you're wanting to wait, get back on it. Especially since you know you got pregnant right away after going off of it and haven't had any problems in that respect.

I was going to wait until I saw the specialist, but you know, I'm not on birth control, I'm not using protection, I don't know WHEN I'm supposed to get my period, nor do I have a clue when I might be ovulating - LOL   I'm just so over it that I'm like, whatever happens happens.  I know I should probably use protection at least until I see the specialist but I'm just so beyond with it all, you know? So if I get pregnant again right away, then I'm pregnant again, let the specialist deal with THAT lol...

Yeah, don't follow my lead lol

  • I chose not to go on BC after our loss because I knew how long it took me to get my cycles back after I went off it for the first time years ago.  I wanted my body and its hormones to get back into stride on their own.

However, some people like to go back on BC to help 're-regulate' their cycles after a loss.  It can take a good couple of cycles for your body to naturally equalize.  Some feel that BC helps this process to scoot along in a more controlled fashion.

If you want to wait I would suggest something like condoms as opposed to a birth control pill.

BC pills can mess with your cycles once you're off of them when you want to TTC again.  And can take up to a year to regulate your cycle.

    GL!

I agree with this. It took me 6 months before my body started to regulate when going off the pill.  As much as condoms suck I think it would be best for your body and hopefully easier for you when trying to concieve.  Every woman's body is different though.

I agree w/ above quotes.  Might want to take some time to get to know your cycle lengths, when you are likely to ovulate, etc.  Sometimes being on the pill also results in a relatively thin endometrial lining, which would be better to build up for a few months if you can.  I am not planning to use pills even though I will wait awhile to TTC.
