Not gaining any weight??

I am considered "overweight" according to BMI so, it's not like I am missing the weight.  I feel like I should have gained some by now.  Anyone else gain very little or none so far?

Re: Not gaining any weight??

  • I was "normal" before I got pregnant. I lost 10-12 pounds since and have only gained back 4-6 so far.
  • I am considered overweight also according to my BMI. I haven't gained any weight as of my last appt and me stepping on my own scale. But my doctor wants me to try and maintain my current weight throughout the pregnancy if possible or gain no more than 10lbs. I think it is completely fine you haven't gained any weight at all and wouldn't worry about it. But if it will make you feel better then ask your doctor next time you go in.

  • I haven't gained any really. I lost 3 lbs in 1st tri (my weight shifted basically, I wasn't sick at all).  I've gained about a pound back.

  • I wish!  I had gained 11 lbs at my 15 week appointment 3 weeks ago.  My doc says it's fine but I'm just not used to gaining and it sounds like a lot :(  I think I may have slowed down a little and just gained another lb or 2 since.  My next appt is not for 2 more weeks so I'm sure I'll gain another lb or 2 by then too.

  • I was right on the border of "normal" and "overweight" and I haven't gained any weight yet.  I lost about 5 total since the BFP.
  • I've lost about 15 from MS but was overweight before getting pregnant.  Feeling better now.  I would ask your doctor.  I know that I've lost weight, and I was a little nervous that the baby wasn't getting enough but my OB assured me that as long as I was hydrated, the baby would be OK and he/she would always take what was needed before I got did (which is probably why we can have a baby bump but have lost weight).  I think the lbs just redistribute themselves (from my face to belly, never from my butt)!
  • I'm in the same boat as well. I lost 12 obs. due to morning sickness and am still down 11. I was/am overwieght and the dr. hasn't mentioned anything about it. I have an appoinment this afternoon, so we shall see.

I could have written this exactly.  My doctor advised me that he wants me to keep my weight as steady as possible for as long as possible.  As long as you're eating well and taking your vitamins, I'm sure everything is a-okay!

  • According to my BMI I am also overweight.  I've gained two pounds and that's it.  Dr. said I should gain 15 - 20 pounds, but isn't concerned when I gain weight (which tri).  I'm happy only gaining the two pounds so far.
  • I am a plus size woman and always have been since my teens.  This is my second pregnancy and so far I've lost around 20 lbs since the beginning. Haven't started gaining yet but it's coming.  I lost 20 last time with my son and by the time I had him, I was the exact size I was when I got pregnant with him.  If you haven't gained or actually lost some, it won't hurt the baby as long as you are trying not to diet and the doctor says the baby sounds good at the visits.  IDK about me.  I'm always eating the same (and not always the healthiest) but I guess the baby is sucking up all the nutrients before it goes to my hips LOL!!  Yay baby!  Eat up :o)
  • My prepregnancy BMI was barely 18.4. And that's me having gained some weight already. I'm Asian, and came from a very petite family.

I gained about 6-8lbs first trimester but lost 4 lbs by my 16th week appointment because of a stomach virus. I had terrible nausea/vomiting but I ate tons of crap and carbs even crackers at the bedside at night to ward off the nasty taste in my mouth. Thus I was able to put on weight.

Haven't really weighed myself since the 16th week appointment but I honestly think I'm up another 4lbs since then, maybe 5. LOL

  • My BMI would classify me as overweight as well. I held steady the fist 12 weeks, but in the last 4 weeks have lost 6 pounds. My doctor is not concerned as the baby is growing well. He would ideally like to see me gain 20-25 pounds, but that is because his office has broken down the weight gain by baby weight, fluid weight, etc. and that works out to about 30 pounds. He feels that not gaining the weight even if you weigh more means that you are technically dieting. He would rather have someone eat well throughout the pregnancy than freak out if they are gaining too much based on their body type.

This exactly but Ive gained 3lbs...I talked to my Nurse and Doc both and they said I have plenty of time to gain the weight after 20 weeks...and as long as the baby is measuring correctly thats all they care about at this point. :) woohoo!

  • I was a normal BMI pre-pregnancy.  I lost 3-4 lbs during 1st Tri and have put some weight back on since. I'm still down 1/2 a lb from my pre-pregnancy weight though. My doctor was really happy about keeping my weight down when we talked about it at my last appt.
