What has saved your sanity with your kids this week?
Of course the week before Christmas is usually insane- you are running around, trying to get all the odds and ends done- and of course little ones tend to go batty during this time.
What has saved you this week?
Re: POLL: What has been your 'saving grace' this week?
For me- it has been cardboard boxes for Gisele.
Thank goodness for amazon and its plethora of boxes that are delievered to my house daily.
That and a lot of snacks. She is pretty much grazing a lot this week.
DH! He has been my saving grace. Everytime he has seen me stressed out when he is home, he jumps on board and does whatever it takes to make the situation better. He wants this Christmas to be soo special this year due to alot of things we went through last year and this year.
The huge indoor playplace in our city has been my second home this week. DH was away for 4 days at a family funeral (DD & I couldn't go, too expensive and no OB in the States so I was wary of travelling so far) It's also like -25 C and colder here each day so I am going stir-crazy without anything to do (it's WAY too cold to play outside)
ETA: Oops, I didn't really read this too carefully - I thought it was just "in general" and not holiday-related. MY saving grace is that we are going to visit my parents for a week for Christmas and I sent my mom some money and my list of gifts to buy (we're flying there on Christmas Eve and don't have time to shop once we get there or bring tons of stuff) Mom was like my personal shopper this year, it's awesome! We do have to bring stuff back but at least I didn't have to brave the malls this time around.
Mine has been the fact that my parents came down early. So they have taken the "kid" load off a bit by helping to referee and watching them while I do last minute errands. Also, DH took Thursday and Friday off so it will make the days leading up much easier also.
I thought letting DS decorate the cookies would be a good distraction for him but that seems to cause a whole lot of clean-up for me;-) But he really enjoys it.
The Fortamajig. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this thing. My kids play in it for 3 HOURS every time I take it out. They only come out for snacks or bathroom breaks! LOL!
It's basically a tent thing.......
An unexpected break on Monday, and DH taking the day off yesterday.
I had to take DD to the doctor Monday, and our dog to the vet, but there was a three hour gap in between appointments. My mom came over to hang out with the baby while I took my toddler to her appt, then I dropped her off at home with my mom, picked up the dog, and ran errands for three hours alone until the vet appt. It was wonderful to have a last-minute babysitter for five hours!
DH worked from home yesterday and we took the girls to the mall to see Santa. It was so much fun to hang out as a family right in the middle of the week.
Netflix. My kids have happily been watching Christmas movies all week. I had planned to do some cleaning while DD1 was at school on Monday, but we ended up with a big snowstorm and a snow day instead. The movies have kept them quiet long enough for me to wrap gifts, finish some projects and clean the house.
My other saving grace is the basement playroom. Since the kids are stir crazy from being in the house I've let them run loose down there. They need to burn the energy somehow and DS HATES to go out in the snow.

My living room floor, the kick-a** smell from my pine scented wax melter thing and doing things earlier than I did last year.
I don't know what it is, but ever since we ditched the carpet in our living room (and put in laminate that looks like hardwood), the amount of toys on it has been minimal. It's awesome! It also hasn't been "feeling" like Christmas this year, not sure why. We have an artificial tree so I have a tea light wax melting thing that melts pine scented wax. It makes the whole house smell awesome!

This has been a crazy week. My DD has had a stomach virus. Finally back to herself! My saving graces have been :
- Wine
- My mom's shortbread
- DD trying to say "love you" to me while stroking my face last night!
- My DH telling me to go have a bubble bath every night.
I hear ya! DD vomited every 30 minutes for like 10 hours. The did the same the next day. I think I have washed every single towel, blanket, sheet and piece of clothing we own. Thank God for having a washer/dryer! Hoe your LO is better by Christmas!

Things have actually been pretty calm this week. But I am excited because tomorrow is my birthday. My H is off and I am going up to my parents' solo to help my mom with some stuff. Then MIL is taking the kids overnight and H has something planned for my birthday - probably a nice dinner out.

Wine.
For me I think it is the fact that this is DD's first Christmas and that DH overall is a bah humbug when it comes to Christmas. So other than making sure I get presents to both my family and his family, Christmas is as much or as little as we make it (especially since DD doesn't understand any of this Christmas business).
That and sleeping when my baby sleeps.
