When can you hear the heartbeat on doppler?

Hi guys,

I have an appointment right around 10 weeks and I'm wondering if we'll be able to hear the hb on the doppler? We already heard (and saw it) at 7 weeks but that was via ultrasound.

Thanks.

  • you should be able to by 10 weeks. We have ours at 10 weeks with the doctor and they should be able to find it. First one was by ultrasound.

  • I think you should be able to by 10, but I read that it's not guarenteed until about 12 wks or so (I think)

  • I heard it for the first time with a home doppler at 9 weeks.  You should be able to hear it at 10 weeks.
  • Depends on the shape and position of your uterus as well as the position of the placenta.  With my DS, we could hear it at home by 11 weeks with a home doppler and at the OB's office.  I tried my home doppler this morning (10 weeks) and couldn't find it.

A coworker of mine was pregnant with her second child, and the heartbeat couldn't be found with the doppler all the way up to 26 weeks-she has a tilted uterus and had an anterior placenta.

  • You should be able to hear the heart beat at about 10 weeks but don't get upset if you don't because there are a lot of variables and the baby is still very small including his/her heart.  I hope you get to hear it!

  • They actually usually caution you wont hear it until the 12 week or after the 12 week because of how small your bean is and how they can move.

  • I just had my first Dr. appt. yesturday- they wouldn't even try to listen to it!  I asked three times!  The Dr. said that they will try at my next appointment.  I do have a tilted uterus and that means it will be harder to pick up as it is.  I think I'm going to get a home doppler and try myself.

Could it also depend on your weight?  More fat...less chance?  Just wondering...
