2nd Trimester

What range did they put you in??

Did they put you in a range for your chances of Down Syndrome? Just wondering what the normal range is? I guess it depends on your age too... I am 31 and they just called and told me 1 in 2000.

Re: What range did they put you in??

  • I dont' know what normal is, but those odds sound good.  I'm 29 and mine came back 1 in 10,000.

  • I was never given a range. Was this due to blood work?

  • Yes, I had to go in for 2 blood draws for screening for open neural tube defect, Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18.

Sound like she had an NT, Quad or Integrated screening done.

My risk factors from the NT were 1:10,000 for Downs and the several Trisomy's they tested for. I don't know what my Quad Screening range was, but I was told it was "normal" and I'm happy with that.

  • I am 31 and my results came back 1 in 10,000

1 in 2,000 is still a good range, from what I recall my doctor saying

I have a friend who is 36 and came back as 1 in 10,000 too.... eek! I'm 5 years younger! I'm wondering why mine is only 1 in 2000?

That sounds like a question for your doctor.

And while age is a factor, it is hardly the only thing at play here.

  • My Dr said that 1:10,000 is the lowest possible risk.  I'm 35 and came in at 1:5,000.  He also said that they catch 85% of Down's babies in the 1:150 rage.

Age certainly isn't the only factor for Down's.

  • Try not to get too caught up in the numbers....a 1 in 2,000 number means your odds of having a baby with Downs is 0.05%.  Or on the flip side, you have 99.95% chance of not having a baby of downs...HTH!

  • Im 40.  After the second blood draw my range went down to 1:1700.  I think he said that my age alone it was 1:200...but with the NT scan and blood work it dropped more.  I happy with that.

  • They told me my expected range was 1 in 420, but my results came back 1 in 350. So I did additional bloodwork and then it came back 1 in 4700.

  • Mine was in 1 in 10,000  but the blood test is not 100% accurate. I think it does depend on your age that's what the genetisist told us, the older you are the more likely you are to have a child with Downs syndrome.  They can also check at your 20 week sono they check bone structures in the fetus.
  • Mine wasn't clear on what was what it says all different Trisomys. For Trisomy 21 it was 1 in 13803, for Trisomy 18 was 1 in 35296 and Trisomy 13 was 1 in 110272.. As I said it is confusing on what is what.
