How long did you date before getting engaged?
The engagement ring posts made me wonder this, especially those who spent 8000 plus on their rings. I can see doing that if you are older and established but there was no way DH and I could have spent that.
DH and I dated for 3 weeks before we got engaged, I was 20. My parents were actually married within 2 weeks of meeting each other. DH's parents conceived him on their first date and were married within 2 months. It will be weird if DD grows up to date someone for 5 years and then get married lol!

We dated for 3 years before getting engaged. Married almost 6 1/2 years now!

We got engaged about 2 years after we started dating, our first year of grad school (we met freshman year of college). We were married when we were 24, so like you, we totally didn't have any money! I believe my ring cost $1,200, which was something DH really saved for at the time and was proud to be able to buy.
We've been married 5.5 years now, and we still don't have any money! LOL.
