Re: Clicky Poll: Did you plan this pregnancy?

  • Yes we planned it.  I didn't think I would get pregnant so fast thought.. The doctor told me it would be about 2 years & I got pregnant on my first cycle. :) I couldn't be happier!

Thats what happened with me too.  It took over a year with our first.

  • I wanted a holiday baby. And well...*looks at EDD*

  • I was diagnosed with PCOS and told that it would probably take a very long time, if we didn't go the Clomid route...  Four months of acupuncture and voila - baby!  So, while planned, we did not expect for it to happen so quickly!
  • We had been trying for 8 months before we decided to cool it for a while. First month we didnt try, we conceived.

  • I voted SS because I was not on birth control, but we weren't actively trying yet. (just not preventing). It happened a couple of months sooner than we wanted, but both DH and I were both super excited when we found out.

  • No... not planned, but very very much wanted.

DD was an IVF baby and we figured it would take another cycle (FET or fresh IVF) to get pregnant again.  I stopped nursing to hopefully get my period back so that I could prepare for a summer FET with my RE.  I got one period and - PREGNANT!  Shock of our lives.

So he wasn't "planned" because it wasn't even on our radar screen that it could happen.  But we certainly wanted another baby.  We just got very lucky and it happened much sooner than anticipated.  :)

  • not at all..and had a hard time accepting it since my little brother just died.  After what took months, I finally realized every life is a blessing no matter what has occured in the family. now I couldn't be more excited to have another little girl and for my first daughter to be a big sister!
  • What a lucky story, sweetheart18! You are not the only mom I know who got pregnant right after IVF. There are more things on heaven and earth, I guess!

We planned our pregnancy in that my husband and I said "how about we try for a baby come 2010?" I talked to my doctor, I went on folic acid supplements, and I went off BC.

I got pregnant the first month. We weren't even "trying" like thinking about my ovulations or whatever. I was SHOCKED when I never got a period again.

Almost exactly this. We had tried for a solid 10 months and finally just gave up and figured it wasn't in the books for us. I believe it was that very cycle that I wound up pregnant.

  • Yes, though we were still surprised.  We were told it would be very difficult to conceive naturally as I didn't ovulate & DH had 2% morphology.

  • Definitely not planned, but like a pp said, very much wanted.

July 2009 I found out I have FVL and was immediately taken off birth control. We were married 8/21/09 and took our honeymoon 3/13/10. We'd been careful, but after our honeymoon we had a slip up and bam, BFP.

EDIT: Sorry ladies, I thought I was on the 2nd tri board, didn't mean to butt in Embarrassed

  • This pregnancy was not planned...  I would have liked to wait a little longer, til I was out of grad school and we were more secure financially. DH and I had been practicing the "withdrawal" method for a year and a half.  I am telling you, that method works!  Because the one time we got lazy.... BAM!

As my mother said to DH, "If we had waited until we were 'ready' to have kids, you wouldn't have a wife right now!"

  • We were not planning. We had only been married for about 8 weeks when we found out we were pregnant. I was on birth control, but had just switched from the ring to the pill and it might have been my error or just an accident. We were scared at first, but excited after we took it all in and got over the initial shock. We are SO excited now, we cannot wait! It all works out either way.

  • DH and I tried for well over a year. We tried fertility treatments and everything. Nothing. I have pcos and endometriosis. I had surgery about 5 yrs ago to remove the endomeriosis and some cysts. Later I went in for a test to check on my tubes and see if there was any damage. One tube was completely blocked and the other was 75% blocked. My dr and my fertility specialist both told me it didnt look like I would ever be able to get pregnant again ( miscarried before DH) so we started filing adoption papers, and BAM. I thought I had an ulcer. haha this was the biggest miracle of my life

  • Not planned. Our first took 19 months of IF treatment and a m/c. This time around we took a weekend trip to Florida and brought home a souvenir - I was on at least day 60+ of my cycle at that point, so definitely not planned, but certainly a blessing!
  • It was more of a "lets stop using any precautions and if it happens its meant to be" kind of thing. well yeah..1 week later I was pregnant..haha

  • The pregnancy was planned. The identical twins part was definitely not planned.

  • I dont understand how you dont plan it.. we all know how a baby is made.  If you dont want a baby, use some form of contraception or dont have sex.

  • definitely planned.  miscarried last september at 10 weeks... had to get a rubella vaccination so needed to wait at least 3 months before trying.... started trying christmas day when my period was over and was pregnant in January. First several weeks was awful waiting for the initial doctor visit - had to wait until end of Feb for the first appt... I had AWFUL anxiety the whole time worrying about another miscarriage.

Couldn't be happier with how things turned out though! He's almost here!!! :)

  • I did not plan my pregnancy. Yes I know how a baby is made and was using contraception. I was on nuvaring for about a year and then I started having major back pain and a horrible kidney infection. I went to my general practitioner over the course of a month trying to make it clear up and he eventually told me to go to the ER. Lo and behold the first test they do is a pregnancy test (why did my GP not? I will never know). The NP came back in the room and said "Is it ok if your mom's here?" "Yes, of course" "Well, congratulations, you're pregnant!"

It took a long time for that to sink in. Eventually they verified it with a blood test in the ER and they sent me for an ultrasound. I was 6 weeks along at that point. The rest is history and me and my husband can't wait to meet Nicolai.

  • We were actually planning to start trying next year, after I was finished with school...but BFP in January! Guess she wasn't waiting any longer ;)

  • Since I know so many women on here have had such a long and painful road to have a baby, and some haven't been successful yet, I feel bad saying I got pregnant the first cycle we tried. I have always had irregular periods and honestly thought it would take a long time. The cycle before the one when I got pregnant was 60 days long and I had just had bloodwork done the week before that showed I was insulin resistant. They were going to put me on metformin to regulate my cycles, but I was in the 2ww, so I waited until I could test...and it was positive! So blessed.

This is pretty much our story too. Never thought it would happen so fast, but couldn't be more excited!

  • We did not plan for this, but we did want it!  I had "unexplained secondary infertility" issues for about 5 years.  We tried clomid for 2 years with no success.  Since we already had DD, we felt blessed with her and decided no more medical intervention...then we got pregnant!  We feel pretty lucky!
  • Ours was planned.  I have endometriosis and went off of birth control last August.  My doctor wanted me to be off of the pill for 3 months to clear my system.  Well, getting off the pill sure as heck didn't help things.  Afterwords, my cycles were lasting 50+ days.  I never knew when I was ovulating.  I tried the ovulation strips and they seemed to work and tracked my cycle on a calendar.  But we didn't get pregnant by using those methods.  I go so frustrated that I pretty much gave up.  The one time when I was not keeping track at all, boom!  I think a lot of it has to do with that I just got so stressed out with timing.  When I wasn't thinking about it, I was more relaxed.
  • We had been trying for over a year and been through several clomid cycles. Finally after seeing a specialist they discovered I had an underactive thyroid so the put me on medication. I had an ultrasound to check my ovaries and the doc told me not to expect to get pregnant that month. I made arrangements to go back to try another fertility drug in May but I got my BFP 2 weeks after I started the thyroid medication.(BFP in Feb) :) Very much planned but at the same time a complete surprise since we thought we were going to have to wait 3 more months before we could try something else. I had gotten so used to seeing one line on a pregnancy test that I took 2 just to make sure there really was 2 lines and then 2 digital and a bloodtest that same day to confirm.

  • We were TTC but had just decided to take a break for a couple more years when I found out I was pregnant.  We were excited, but it definitely took a little while to get used to the idea of having another baby after I'd started planning otherwise.

Hmm Did you actually read any of the responses?  Life is not always black and white.  And since when does "didnt plan" = "didn't want"???

Because sometimes ppl are on bc (me) and using it properly and still get pg.  It's only 99.9% effective.  I'd been on the same kind (nuvaring) for over four years and wasn't on antibiotics or anything.  Apparently God decided FI and I needed to get the ball rolling a little faster then we planned.  And my boss, who is my general MD, was on the same bc and is due exaclty 4 weeks after me.  So we blame the bc!

  • We were in the process of adoption when we found out we are pregnant. We had given up on pregancy 10 years ago... who could have planned this? We are very happy!!

  • Kind of planned...I had PCOS...but we had decided not to do clomid and went off BC and waited to see what happened. We thought it would take years if at all. We had just adopted the month before I got my BFP. I had been off BC for right at 1 year and had only had one period.
  • For those who said they were "not trying but not preventing"...to me that is a planned pregnancy.  If you're not preventing, then by default you are trying.

  • Very very very much sought after.  Very very much planned.

(FYI:  This in no way shape or form means I'll love her more than my unplanned and conceived on birth control daughter, who is 8).

    :)

Although she'll be pretty fricken' special after the time we had trying to conceive her.

  • Totally planned

  • We tried for 12 cycles.  I got my BFP one year to the day from getting off depo.  If I didn't that month, we were going to see another specialist for some testing the next month.

Waiting til more financially stable doesn't always work. DH and I waited 8 years to get there before we gave up, unfortunately with the twists and turns of the economy and personal lives, we realized we may not be able to have children if we continued to wait, so here we are in early/mid 30s having our first child. Good luck.
