On our way to dinner tonight one of the new Eminem songs came on. The conversation went from his new music, to his old music, then to "Nookie" by Limp Bizkit.
He pointed out that when that song was popular he was in college chasing it, and I was in middle school and not entirely sure what it was. He's 30 and I'm 23.
Re: DH really put our age difference into perspective
I try not to get into those conversations with Mr Techie. He's 36 and I'll be 29 in a few weeks. Not quite the age difference between you and your DH but still a good chunk.
We've both said that if we had met at any other point in our lives other than when we did, we never would have gotten together.
My boyfriend is 25... and I was a little floored when he mentioned that Britney Spears hit when he was in 8th grade.
Ouch. I'm 36. I think Debbie Gibson was out when I was in 7th/8th. :-/
Oh well... happy matters more than numbers.
Hey! There is nothing wrong with George Michael! Says the 32 year old woman.
Just because you didn't have an electric youth and get lost in emotion over him doesn't mean he wasn't great.
Anyone? Anyone get it?
I do. Sadly...
Electric Youth - Debbie Gibson
Lost in Emotion - Lisa Lisa with Cult Jam (which happens to be on the 80's CD I made from Limewire that is in the console of my car.)
Love it.
Debbie Gibson is actually performing in a Cirque du Soleil show at a local casino right now, and I've been dying to go. JUST to see Debbie Gibson.
A local alternative station has the "Retro Lunch" every afternoon from 12 to 1:30. I listen to it often streaming online at work and it really freaks me out that songs from high school (graduated in '96) are considered retro. How the he!l did that happen??!
And I have to say, I think the lack of understanding technology by the husbands in their 30s is just that they don't want to or don't care. I'm 32 and my husband is 30, and our house is gadget central. And we are capable of working everything just fine.
Retro lunch is awesome...just had to pop in and say so!
And I remember Debbie Gibson being so awesome when I was in maybe 3rd or 4th grade-I'm 29.No age difference between me and DH really (he's 31) but he had a very sheltered life as far as pop culture goes, and sometimes I feel like I'm married to a 40 something because he never has any damn idea what I'm talking about.

Great - now those songs are stuck in my head! Let me get out my Electric Youth perfume, my headband and something neon green - or maybe my Hypercolor shirt (remember those?!)
I'm 33 and I'm feeling really, really old right now.
I had a couple short sleeve and long sleeve. I really hated wearing them to school though because you would get hot and your armpits would change colors. Not something you want everyone to notice.
I also had hypercolor paint. Like puff paint for shirts. That was pretty cool. I would make my own styling shirts with that stuff!
Your age difference with your husband is actually exactly the same as the OP's.. 7 years.
I am 7 years younger than my husband as well, and we sometimes get a kick out of pop culture references that the other one "doesn't get" because of the age "gap".
Wait...I shouldn't be wearing my super awesome blue hypercolor shirt that turns pink? Damn it! lol
I am 34 and will be 35 in a couple of weeks. I don't remember Electric Youth perfume but I did wear Exclamation! Ya... I was pretty cool! haha
I'm 27, my fiance just turned 40 last month. Music is usually the biggest difference with us.
If it makes you feel better, I was freaking 5 when he graduated high school! haha
