If you are using the dresser as a changing table...

What are you doing to make sure that the changing pad doesn't slide around?

  • Ours has a rubbery bottom that provides traction, but if it didn't have that, I'd probably just buy some of the rubber drawer liners. I've put these underneath the baskets that are on top of the dressers in the baby's room, both to keep them from being bumped off and to protect the top of the dressers.
  • drawer liners but our pad doesnt move anyway

  • You could always get velcro and stick it on there if you were really worried about it, but I don't plan on being more than a step away when LO is on it so I'm not worried about it sliding off if I'm right there the whole time.
  • My pad came with 2 straps that will screw / snap onto the back of my dresser.  Heres the link......

  • Ours has a snap that we attached to the back of the dresser.

  • Yeah, we didn't do anything to hold ours down.  It was kind of rubbery on the back, and that was enough.  You should never turn your back on your baby or walk away while they're on it anyhow, so it shouldn't matter much.

  • Even if you dont plan to step away it is still a good idea to have something in place to keep the pad from moving. As LO gets older they get wiggly.

For DD I have a changing pad wooden thing (not sure for the correct name) Anyways, it looks like the top part of the below picture. I found it at a re sale shop and you set the changing pad inside it. The entire thing sits ontop of the dresser.

For DS I have his changing pad on his dress and I put rubber shelf liner under it. You can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond, wal-mart, target etc...and it comes in a ton of different colors.

  • Be careful putting the rubbery drawer liners on finished wood or painted furniture.  It can mess up the finish.  I know this from (sad) experience.  We don't have anything under our changing pad and had never had a problem with it sliding off, even when he got big and squirmy.

If you want to do something, I would screw the thing into the dresser or get the box thing to put it in.  I know pottery barn kids has them.

  • Thanks for your suggestions!! Obviously I would never step away from LO while on the table, I was just thinking of what to do to make it a little more sturdy.  I had thought about the drawer liner, but i know that can mess up the wood....thanks ladies!!

  • Ours came with a strap I screwed into the back of the dresser. Still moves side to side, but there's no way it's going to come off.
  • I'm using a piece of non-slip mat that you would use under a rug.

  • Our changing pad came with snap screws (many come with tabs and screws which accomplish the same thing) that attach it to the back of the dresser. Then I put the non-slip shelf liner under it just to keep it from sliding. It wouldn't slide off since it was attached to the dresser, but it could wiggle a bit and the non-slip stuff helped.

  • We're using leftover drawer liner that is kind of rubbery and should keep it from sliding.  Ours came with a strap we can screw into the dresser, but since the dresser is an antique from DH's family we'd rather not do that.

  • My husband actually built a frame to go around it that held it in place.  He used molding and painted it to match the nursery.  It looks great and is very practical.  The way he anchored it down does not impact the surface of the dresser - just the back of it (which has lots of screws and things anyway).
  • Our pad has a sticky/rubbery bottom that clings to the dresser.  It also came with straps and screws to attach it securely to the back of the dresser.

  • Our dresser came with four slats to install on top of the dresser so the pad has something around it. We can remove it when we get past that stage
