I'm not sure what part of DFW you're at but there is an embroidery store in the Willow Bend mall in Plano. I'm not sure of the name but it's on the second floor. I've never used their service so I'm not sure if it's inexpensive or not.
I always go to uncommon threads in Grapevine - but I don't know how far that is from you. They are $10 / item and they can get it done really quickly - I've always been pleased.
If you are close to Rowlett/Rockwall you should check out LD Embroidery. If you purchase an item in their shop then the embroidery is free on that item. For things you bring in the price ranges from $3 (small) to $10 (extra large.) For most of the things I bring in I choose the $5 size. Yesterday I brought in 3 blankets (lots of babies being born in my family!) 2 bibs, and a repair (got a blanket from a friend and the weight and length were wrong on it) and my total was $25.
Her turn around is usually pretty quick but back to school is her busy season. So it usually takes a few days longer; I dropped off yesterday and my stuff will be ready on Monday, still not too bad a wait time.
