Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone else TTC right now?

I have a 3 1/2 month old and she has been so wonderful that we are already TTC again.  I would have been fine actually if I had found out I was pregnant again the day after I had her, even though the pregnancy itself was just so miserable.  Is anyone else TTC right now?  I am a little worried though because I had to have a C-Section, and while I was cut for a V-Back, my doctor said that there is a 1% chance if you have your babies 2 years apart that you will need an emergency C-Section if you try to go through vaginal delivery again.  Anyone else trying right now?  Does anyone have experience with a V-Back that early?

Re: Anyone else TTC right now?

  • We're not trying yet, but we just talked about this last night and we're leaning towards starting to TTC again when Lucy is 4 months. However, that could change again, haha.

I don't have experience personally with a vbac, but my cousin had her two kiddo's 14 months apart and had a vbac with no complications.

  • We are.  Suppose to see AF on Friday- fingers are crossed that I do not.

  • Not this early, but we have talked about maybe starting in the spring when DS turns 1.
  • Are you crazy?! Don't get me wrong, I love both my kids. But it is incredibly hard having kids this close together. I was so tired and nausous that I barely had the energy to take care of the baby I already had. I feel like I lost out on a lot of the joy and wonder of my daughters early months because I was dealing with a second pregnancy. It is also extremely expensive and can put a strain on your relationship. But if you have the money, time, help, strength, then go for it, but speaking from experience I would wait a little longer and enjoy the baby you JUST HAD! The only plus is that my DD didn't seem jealous of the new baby. As for a v-bac my doctor told me absolutly not. That my chances of uterine rupture were just too high.
  • Nope.  But, AF still hasn't made an appearance and I had some red spotting a couple of days ago so I am going to POAS tomorrow and see what happens.  We've barely had sex since DS was born (it hurts!) and we took precautions so I doubt I'm pregnant BUT I haven't been able to start my birth control yet so there is a slim chance.

I definitely want another kid but we don't want to start TTC until DS is about 1 1/2 years old so I'm hoping the test tomorrow is negative!

    Good luck to you, though!

this.  i'm just starting to fit into my pp clothes & not look like a stuffed sausage.  the sleep deprivation from the early months is just starting to get better.  In short, I'm starting to feel like a normal human being again.

when DS is 2 or so, we'll START thinking about a 2nd.  And DS is a ridiculously easy baby.

This. At the earliest we might start trying when DS is 9 months. I want to continue to BF DS as close to a year as I can get.

  • No effing way
  • I wouldn't say we're actively TTC, but we're not TTA!

  • Not trying to flame or judge, but both my ob and the MFM specialist I saw in my pregnancy recommended not getting pregnant again for 18 months to give my incision site plenty of time to heal. So we won't try until after that. It doesn't make sense to us to have added risk.

We won't be TTC until DD is around 2.
  • We're not even remotely close to talking about TTC.

  • No, no, a thousand times no.

I had the easiest pg ever and DS is also a ridiculously easy baby IMO and we still don't know if we really ever want another.

  • I think that's really sweet you're ready so soon...really.  IIRC for a vbac, they want your babies 18mos apart?  Ask your dr.

I have 2 already that are 26mos apart.  I want a 3rd and want them closer but won't be TTC until my youngest is 12mos for 2 reasons:

1 - My healthcare providers recommend 12-18 mos before getting pg again to allow your body enough time to fully recover and heal (I've had 2 vaginal deliveries).

2 - BF'ing for the full 12mos is important to me and I don't want to make that sacrifice.

  • Good god, NO!  I'm enjoying Kaitlyn right now.  Plus I couldn't imagine caring for her and feeling all miserable with pregnancy.  Not sure when we'll start TTC again.  Maybe when she;s about a year and a half?  I also have to put in 900 hours (I think) at work to be eligible for top up again for mat leave.

This - and it is soooo hard to wait until 1 year - but bc of my leave at work I have to.  But I want another baby - like yesterday.

  • Not TTC at all. I already have 2 under 2 and, while I love it, I wouldn't want to make it 3 under 3 :)

Besides, I wouldn't feel comfortable getting pregnant this soon after a C/S - I think it's a little riskier... (I had a vaginal delivery with my first, so I wasn't as concerned)

Do your research and talk to your doctor.  Getting pregnant too soon after giving birth can be risky. One recent large study found that becoming pregnant less than six months after giving birth increased the risk of preterm birth by 41 percent. And becoming pregnant 6 to 12 months after giving birth increased the risk of preterm birth by 14 percent. The study also found that getting pregnant between 12 and 18 months after giving birth posed no significant increase risk of preterm birth.  Spacing pregnancies at least 12 months apart will give your body time to fully recover.

Yes This.  In fact, I believe my exact words to DH were, "I won't even bring it up again until DD is 2."  So based on that, probably even longer.

  • We will start TTC next summer. I would like DS to be at least 2 when we have our next. But I can't wait too long either since I'm 37 - would like to be done before 40.

  • I'm technically not suppose to be here yet but we are planning on waiting until DD is about 2 to start TTC again.  And you may want to check with your doctor. This was just discussed on 0-3 and most of their doctors recommended waiting 1 year after having a c-section.

  • I'm right there with you!  No AF for me yet though.  We will def. TTC as soon as possible.  Both my OB and RE supported our decision and gave us no reasons to wait.  My RE told me to come see her if we weren't pg by the time DD was 6 months.  I had a vaginal delivery though, I don't know about CS/VBAC.  GL!!

I second this! DH needs time to be the baby and deserves all of the attention right now. I could not juggle work, being a mom and pregnancy right now. I am barely adjusting to being a working mom as it is now. We're planning on trying for #2 in a year. And a word to the OP...my baby is an angel and so easy. Everyone tells me you don't get two easy babies.
  • We are. We want our children close together. My brother and I are 13 months apart and we are super close. I have lost all my prepregancy weight and I am in good health. I am a stay at home mom so daycare is not an issue.
  • Ditto the not trying not to. But do what you feel comfortable with! I had a CS and my doctor said we didn't have to worry about waiting. You're body is made to handle it or you wouldn't be able to. But I would be aware that you may have a harder time with the VBAC, if it's a big deal to you. GL!
  • we'll start TTC #2 when DD is 1 year old. i want my LOs to be close in age but i want to be sure my body (and mind) is ready for a second baby.
  • We just decided to start not TTA since DD is 6 months old (my OB and midwife recommended waiting 6 months before TTC since I had a c/s). I had to see an RE to get PG but we're not going to make that appt until January if nothing happens before then.

No VBAC experience here. Good luck!

    Hell no.

For one thing my OB told me to wait at least a year to let my body heal (C/S with complications). For another, I want to enjoy the baby I have now before sharing focus with another pregnancy.

Don't think that was intentional, but it made me laugh :)

  • We aren't preventing.  I have PCOS and it took 2 years to conceive DD.  I'd be thrilled to get pregnant again so soon, but I fully expect that it will take an extended period of time again.  If we aren't pregnant in 2 years, we will start looking into fertility treatments again (like we were starting to when I became pregnant).
