Baby & beach question

If you've taken LO to the beach, how did you protect them from the sun?  I am debating on a cabana style tent, but worry it will be painfully hot with the lack of air circulation.  I picked up a stroller fan that I can attach, but I am not sure how well that will work.  Or will large umbrella be better?  I would love to have DD nap on the beach, but I am not sure it is going to happen.  My hopes for the cabana was to have DD nap in there, but I also have the option for a pnp on the beach.  Not sure what to do, but I need to purchase asap.

    Just went to beach with LO yesterday.  We had a large beach umbrella.  It is breezy enough underneath - at least where we were at.  LO loved the ocean too.  Took several dips up to her waist to cool off.

    Beach umbrella and tent. Honestly the best way to keep her cool was to sit on the shore and have the water hit her. She loved it.

    Ditto the big umbrella.  DS actually fell asleep on me, I think the sound of the ocean lulled him to sleep.
