We have to order ours ourself. The hospital does the SS card but not the birth certificate. I plan to order DD's this week.

I was told that you do not get it in the mail, that the hospital fills out the forms but you have to go down to the county to get a copy yourself. Interested in seeing what other people say because I have been wondering if this was true or not.

I've been telling myself to make a trip to the municipal building to pick it up since the day we brought her home from the hospital. At this rate, I may just pay the $25 to have them ship it straight to my house (within 30 days - honestly, at this point, what another month?).

I think it depends on the state you live in. We got SS card around 5 weeks, I think, and birth certificate about 2 weeks later - both in the mail, and only had to fill out the hospital form to get them. You might want to call your hospital to ask them.

We filled out paper work at the hospital, but that was just to create the birth certificate. To get a copy we had to go to the court house, fill out a form, and pay a fee. It probably isn't automatically mailed out.

Same here. We couldn't order until 2 weeks after birth, then it took about 2 weeks to get it.

Here in MD they send a birth registration and you have to take this to a County records office, fill out some paperwork and then they mail the paperwork for you. I didn't realize this with DS#1.

We got SS card a few weeks ago. This week we got a birth registration notice with information on how to obtain a birth cert from the state division of vital records.

Us too. We got a form in the mail about a week or two after she was born and I have to fill it out and mail it in before they'll send one out.

Also, to get a copy, it cost $16. I don't know why, but I didn't think it cost money Bummer.

Wow that's crazy. We received ours on Saturday at 13 days post. Apparently it had been there (at the post office) a few days, too. Hopefully you can track it down.

And an added note; we received the SS card at the same time!
