Eating more junk?

I NEVER used to eat junk.  The past few weeks though, I've been stopping for fast food more and more often and all I want is crap food! Is anyone else having this issue?  The idea of a veggie is soooo gross!

  • I ate almost all carbs during first tri- pasta, bread, cereal, Taco Bell. The thought of meat or veggies literally made me gag. Nowadays, I crave sweets like they're going out of style. It's terrible!
  • Yes ! I crave chocolate and Pepsi like crazy !!! Before my pregnancy  i hardly ever ate chocolate and I never drank Pepsi ! So weird !

  • I can't get enough junk food, and I ate very healthy before I was pregnant. I try not to worry about it too much, I drink a lot of skim milk, take may prenatals, drink lots of water and try to allot myself a ration of junk food.

    It seems that everything we "plan" for dinners and other meals are just so unappealing..

    This! I craaave sweets like crazy! I NEVER eat candy bars or ever buy them. Now every time I am at the store I feel the need to purchase a twix bar! agh!

  • I had two peanut butter crunch moon pies in one day.  Embarrassed  I'm not usually a sweets person but those just really hit the spot.

    Yeah I find myself dining more on ice cream and chips then anything else.  I blame it on the weather.  I just don't want to cook when it's so nice outside right now.
  • I'm right there with you. All I crave are Five Guys Burger & Fries double bacon cheeseburger :) Yummm
  • me too! I ate totally healthy before I was pregnant- a complete heath food nut. And now, I still eat healthy food but i supplement it very nicely with crap! I try to eat right for baby, but it is just not tasting as great anymore.

  • I was all about relatively healthy food in second tri.  At about 32 weeks, I started to crave fast food, baked goods, ice cream all the time.  It has subsided in the past week or two, I think the hot weather has a lot to do with that though.  I hate eating heavy food when its 85 degrees outside.
  • I don't know what the deal is but I crave salty tortilla chips and french fries.  I'm only allowing a small indulgence on it once a week since it's not healthy but it's sooooo good.  Oh and hamburgers? Can't get enough of them, one a week is too much probably but it's hard to say no.  Fortunately I also want green stuff like asparagus too and that I indulge in a lot.
  • I'd always tried to eat decently healthy so the baby would get a variety of nutrients. I didn't have the best food habits before I got pregnant, so it was a challenge. In the mid/early stages of pregnancy, I was totally turned off sweets and all I wanted was citrus. The sweets cravings came back though, and with the acid reflux I eye my citrus in want but remember the pain that comes after! 

     Now i've made a bad habit for myself by having a chocolate shake in the evening sometimes to curb the acid reflux, and having a donut when I pass by my fav donut shop.... I'm letting myself do it for now until the baby is here, but man, that's going to be hard to break when it's all done!!! 

  • I have been craving salt.  So french fries and potato chips.  I gave in to my cravings a couple times thinking once I tasted the foods I wouldn't crave them any more... it didn't work.

  • I'm also the same way. Anything sweet I crave, especially chips (spicy nacho doritos) and gummi worms! LOL But i just try not to think about it to much, and drink plenty of water! Meat disgusts me, to even think about it.

  • Are you ladies noticing a trend here? All my baby wants is chocolate and ice cream, does that mean there is a girl in there? Look at the older posts... all of the girls came from moms with a sweet tooth and the few boys came from moms wanting burgers and chips hahaha! Perhaps the old wives' tale is true and sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what's girls are made of. I have to wait three more months to find out if my theory is true!
  • I was a pretty healthy eater & went to the gym/ worked out at least 3x a week but then we ran into financial problems & really couldn't afford to stock up on food plus I didn't feel like cooking with my morning sickness & hightened sense of smell .. plus after i could start eating again I craved fast foods.  But after what seems like months of that, even though every now & then I still want an In & Out burger or Taco Bell, I'm tired of fast food.  Don't  get me wrong, I swear I'm at McDonald's (at my job) everyday around the same time for my 2nd breakfast lol But as of the last few weeks I swear I'm eating more sweets (mainly sour & gummy candies)... I'm  having a boy so I hope it all goes to him.  I'm kinda worried though about all the sugar. Don't wanna get gestational diabetes or do the glucose test ...

  • Well I am having a boy and want sweets like crazy!  Non-prego I could rarely eat sweets, I am very much a salty person and a meat and potatoes kinda girl, but with this baby, he takes after his daddy with a ig giant sweet tooth!  I fantasized about a cupcake while a fat kid was holding it, making me feel and almost act like a fat kid myself!
  • I am craving salty things during the day...  Pickles, Doritos, Pretzels, Veg Bouillon Broth, Ramen Noodles, and sweet things at night.  I think I'm baking like every three days.  Oh and lots of water.  I still force myself to eat lots of veg at the regular meals though, I just eat the salt and sweet at my in between meals. :)

    i was the same, never drank pepsi, now the last week, all i want is pepsi and chocolate.i craved it all last week and wouldn't get either for myself, but by friday i gave in, i only have 4weeks left, so why not. i wouldn't mind before i was pregnant i was a health nut, always eating really healthy and goin to the gym. 

    now i am hungery all the time and want sweet stuff, i just try to keep it to a minimum.

  • I'm right there with you! This is my first pregnancy and I am a pre-pregnancy health nut! I try to eat well, but I can't stomach anything remotely healthy! My husband is loving that all I want is sweets and fast food. We just ordered pizza for dinner...used to be forbidden in my house! I just try to focus on keeping food down and move around as much as I can. I'll worry about eating more healthy in the 2nd trimester!
  • omg!!!!  I am in the same boat, even though I haven't TOTALLY given in, I am trying not to restrict, so a little sugar here, a little junk here...I am TOTALLY addicted to animal crackers, and eggs, and the thought of a salad makes me want to spew!!!!!!
  • Definitely!!! Before I was pregnant, I loved salads and fruit, and I worked out every day. Not now... During the day I try to be good (nuts, frozen fruit, peanut butter and crackers). But for dinner, all I want are carbs... pasta, Taco Bell, Genghis Grill noodles, tortillas. It wouldn't be so bad if I had the energy to work out!

  • I dunno, I couldn't stop eating chocolate and caramel (and hot cheetos, for some reason), and I had a boy XDD

     

    I think it's just your body trying to tell you it's okay to be comforted by crap.

  •    wow, you guys made me feel so much better - as i am writing this i am enjoying a bag of kettle corn and a bottle of gingerale for my second breakfast! I am totally with all of you who only want junk. I *heart* carbs right now! and i just discovered that I love bread & butter pickles - buying my first jar of them last night made me feel like a "real" pregnant lady. ha!  

       Little trick for sneaking in vegetables: when I make mac & cheese (which is often!), i like to mix in some small pieces of veggies (baby peas, chopped mushrooms,etc.). It might sound kinda weird, but it is pretty tasty - and it helps me feel less guilty about all the pasta & cheese!

  • I have bad cravings too, moreso for chocolate and pies. Its horrible, like I cant control it!
  • Yes! All I want is snacky foods! I even ate at Long John Silvers and I haven't had that food YEARS!!! I guess this baby doesn't care about my waist line!
  • This post made me feel much better! I've been craving junk like crazy! And I swear they put something addictive in the Taco Bell meat! Lol

    I have craved green beans a few times lately, so let's hope my cravings start moving in that direction. I try to keep reminding myself to eat for the baby, not for me, but it's so hard when healthy foods sound disgusting most of the time!

  • I read and write this as I am eating cookie dough ice cream out of the carton searching specifically for the cookie dough chunks.

    I also never drank pop prior to PG and now all I want is pop.

  • I have been eating healthy for years and I assured my doctor that I have great healthy eating and snacking habits, and I kept with that for the first 8 weeks or so and then suddenly I can't get enough soda! I hadn't drank soda in 5 years. I make a special trip to my friends house to use her Fry-Daddy, the very thought of that used to gross me out.

    I used to eat raw veggies and drink 100% juice and 12 grain bread, now it's all about candy, soda and JUNK! I've been nauseaus since day 1, so my theory is that's it's better to eat junk than nothing at all.

  • I eat sooo much junk food! I mean, before I was pregnant,  I loved unhealthy stuff and didn't eat too many vegetables and such, but I'm even worse now!!!

  • My OB got on my case at my most recent appointment (16-weeks) because I confessed to my cravings for Egg McMuffins and Whoppers.  My debit card shows me that I'd been to either McD's or BK twice a week for the last several... o.O... plus we eat frozen pizza at home... 

    I was a super healthy eater pre-pregnancy... now it's whatever I can get down... and I am too tired to cook most days... though after being scolded I've been better, but I still miss my Egg McM :(

    Good, I hope I start craving some hamburgers really quickly lol...Right now its christmas cooking time. I never had a sweet tooth until after I became pregnant 11 years ago.It has never gone away : (

  • So glad I'm not alone in this boat!  Normally I eat very healthy & exercise a lot.  My pregnancy cravings have come to include Pizza Hut once a week (which I haven't eaten in over 10 yrs prior to being pg), Old Country Buffett (mac n cheese, cornbread stuffing, shrimp...yum..) and COKE - I could literally probably drink 3 cokes a day but I try to limit to just a couple on the weekend... It's really crazy.  Throw Taco Bell in there a few times for good measure (also prior to pg didn't go there for years).  haha!  =)-

  • I'm super frustrated... I had already gained a bit of weight before becoming pregnant, and now with not being able to eat deli meat, there goes my healthy home-packed lunch.... I'm sorry but no matter how big I make a salad, I'm never full!  I'm right there with the Five Guys poster, haha!  I try to be mindful of what I'm eating because I don't want to be one of those pregnant women who just "lets themselves go," but all I want are simple carbs.  I would love nothing more than to eat pretzels, crackers, pasta, and cous cous all day long.  Honestly I wish I had worse morning sickness so I could eat more of what I wanted and not feel so bad.

  • I knew I wasn't the only one! My last pregnancy, five years ago, I ate very healthy. I actually craved fruits and veggies and fruit juice. This time, nope, all I want is donuts, pb m 'n' m's and chocolate pudding. Oh, and baked potatoes!!! YUMM!! WTH is wrong here??? I can't even drink water or green tea (which is what I drank prepregnancy) without feeling like throwing up. I never usually ate donuts and junk before now, maybe a donut every other month or so. Im praying I don't gain a lot of weight. It sucks that it's winter and all the fruit tastes like *** too. It tastes so much better in the summer.

  • I didn't matter what I at while I was pregnant. Everything made me sick for the first 4 months. Then, I just craved everything!!!! I at everything I could get my hands on. I even ate tuna!!! I hate any kind of fish or seafood, but that tuna salad sandwich was awesome!!! I was weird though. I craved dairy products. Milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream. I also gained 60 pounds while I was pregnant. :(

  • I am in my last trimester and my sweet tooth and burger craving has increased like crazy. I want ice cream, pie, cookies and burgers all the time. I had a whopper with cheese today and it was the thing ever. I had a sweet tooth before but not to this extent. I was nervous about my glucose screen because of it but it came back normal.
