7 months? Although for a long time she would topple over if she'd reach for a toy or something. Just about a month ago I stopped putting the boppy around her. (She was 6 wks premature, though, so a little behind).
DS first sat unassisted for a decent amount of time at exactly 6 months. He has only been able to get from a crawling position to sitting since he hit 8 months.
My ds tripoded at 4mo, sat on his own without asistance around 5.5mo but I havnt ever seen him get into a sitting position from lying down. He can get down from sitting into a crawl without help though.

My DD has been sitting on her own since your DS's age, but she still has yet to get herself into that position from her back or belly.
She started sitting on her own at 5 1/2 months but wasn't able to get from on her stomach/back to a sitting position on her own until 8 months.
This, and LO is 8 months.
Right around 5 months.
